If they believe that the drop off on edge rushers is significant after Lawrence then they did what that had to do. I am ok with it. The points difference on the trade wasn't much. If they went with Telvin Smith or Caruan Reid in the 4th I would have given an A- but I would still go B-. Which by the way i would be happy to take every year.

I give it a C. I think Martin starts immediately and the offense prospers right away from his insertion into the line-up. D-Law is a project with terrific upside, but I hate the loss of the 3rd Rd pick for a team that needs as much defensive talent as we do. I hated the Hutchins 4th round pick with soooo many other options including Telvin Smith- but I'll be the first to admit I know little to zero about the player.

Gardner is a steal. Rugged, bullying kind of player that brings a country strong feel to the Defense. He makes the team and gets reps this season.

Street is a guy that can contribute now also if given an opportunity... but will he get one with our stable of WR's as they are (I still feel Harris needs more burn, and Beasley is a weapon that I don't think the Cowboys are ready to move on from)?

To me Dixon is the same as Jakar Hamilton in terms of play style... don't we have that player already in our depth chart?

Sometimes it feels like we draft someone in hopes they surprise and be a different player than they were in college. I do love his Whitner-ish approach. This defense needs that intimidation factor so badly, but can he make the team?.

I know little about Smith but I feel like the team for whatever reason does its best work late in the draft and with UDFA's.

It's a draft not without merit and ability- can these players be coached into performing NFL players. We shall see.

The main thing with the Cowboys is: can their best players remain healthy enough long enough and often enough. If they can and do we will be a factor. If not, look for another nailbiter of a season that falls on the sword again.

I'm not as pessimistic as some of you. I think they addressed the O-Line with Martin. LOVE LOVE LOVE that pick, you all know how I feel about Demarcus, I was iffy on a few selections but I think they got some good value in the later rounds. They addressed the Line and went very heavy on defense which is what they needed. I think they got exactly what they should have and in a couple of years the Cowboys could have a very solid roster. I am hoping that some of the rookies from last year and a couple from this year can contribute right now. Either way I think this is better Dallas Cowboy team than it was on Monday. I give them an A-

1st of all....Only time will tell if we made a huge mistake passing on Manziel. We were basically forced to pass on a QB.... cause of the ridiculous extension we gave to Romo. Again only time will tell if we blew it not taking Manziel... just for the record i wouldve liked to have took him, but understood the reason why we didnt.....Now onto the rest of the draft.

I would've preferred if we gave up a 3rd or 4th rounder to move up from 16 to 12 to get Donald, rather than giving it to the Commanders in a move to get Lawerence. since Donald and Barr and Beckham were all gone by 16, the best move would've been to try and trade down at that point, but for some reason it didnt work out. so there at 16..... i wouldve took Pryor over Martin. and the reason is there was OL all over this draft, infact i cant ever remember so many OL in one draft. Im tired of having junk at Safety for so many years. It hurt to lose the 3rd rounder but even more difficult was the Hitchens pick in the 4th..... most experts had this guy a 7th rounder or UDFA....I hope im wrong but that pick didnt feel right and i feel like thats a bust waiting to happen. Street and all our 7th rounders were solid......was happy with those

I think they've made production and versatility a large factor in draft rankings the last few years.(Since Garrett) It's one of the things I picked up somewhere when they Drafted Murray despite his injuries. Not saying it's the best policy but it's probably the reason Hitchens is where he is.

RD1 Zack Martin OL
This pick is going to be a staple for this OL. IMO he is going to be better then any of the OL picked in the first round. He will start at RG but i think next yr he moves outside to RT. This guy can just play anywhere.
Grade A+

RD2 Demarcus Lawrence DE

Good player but IMO not good enough to trade up for and sacrifice a RD3 pick. They wanted him tho, but i think he is going to end up being average. Plenty of guys that couldve been picked in RD2 and RD3 but werent because they reached for this guy.
Grade C+

RD4 Anthony Hitchens LB

When his own agent says he thought he was going RD6 theres a problem. Huge reach.
Grade D

RD5 Devin Street WR

Where he was drafted and where people thought he would this guy is a very good catch. Runs all the routes in the tree and gives you that vertical threat. Could actually challenge to start. Where he was drafted gets added value to his grade.
Grade B

RD7 Ben Gardner DL

Im biast but this guy is a beast. He is going to be one of this teams most consistent players on defense sooner rather then later. The real thing.
Grade B+

RD7 Will Smith LB Texas Tech

Apparently alot of people had him graded as a RD4 or RD5 guy. Looks like a MLB kind of guy. Has some speed and ability to cover. NIce Depth.
Grade C-

RD7 Ahmad Dixon S

If you watched him play you can tell why he dropped right away. He has talent but the guy is a walking penalty in the NFL. Most likely a backup to Church and a ST thug lol.
Grade C

RD7 Ken Bishop DT Northern Illinois

Guy is a mountain of rock. Just bullies G's and C's out of the way, not the mention for his size he is very quick off the snap. McClain and Bishop are going to form one very strong 1tech posistion.
Grade A

Overall i think the Cowboys got better on defense this weekend and got a whole lot better on offense with only 2 picks. I know alot of people gripe because of the FO and the lack of names the team went after in FA. But this team got a whole lot better on the DL from last yr.

DL Additions
DT Henry Melton
DT Terrell McClain
DE Jeremy Mincey

DE Demarcus Lawrence
DL Ben Gardner
DT Ken Bishop
DT Chris Whalen

7 new players who are Marinelli's type of guys. I dont see an enormous amount of sacks from this DL but i see alot more pressure from last yr. Where they had Hatcher and nobody else with consistent pressure. This team now has a solid core for a rotation to keep bodies fresh and keep them coming after the QB.

Good write up..why no write up on the CB. Some had him as a 4 or 5 pick. Since Whaley will be on IR, just replace him with the DL we signed from AZ state. Charles Davis said in a normal WR draft that street would have been a 3rd rounder.

always appreciate your posts LM
since the FO determined over the night they had to have Lawrence for that price I accept the trade.
I wish we would have had the third pick.
With Hitchens I kinda agree a head scratchier.
I think they did have a plan which was shown at the top of FA and followed through with the draft.

Yeah they had a plan in FA. they didnt want to go into the draft having to need to force DL picks. The forced one and that was painful enough.

Someone posted that the seventh round made this draft and i agree.
Martin is a real comfort pick for me.A rock at guard and creates a good back up in Bernadeau.
Lawrence was a most have in the War room so OK .
Again i think the seventh round covered a lot of faults in the way the draft fall to us.
Maybe FA will help out a little also.

someone correct me if I am wrong but I think the FO was trying hard to move up to get one of the guys they wanted in the first but couldn't find a dance partner.
The Martin pick [by default may end up being a blessing.

D. Aside from Manziel, there was too much trading up and losing picks in a deep draft. We should have traded down the second rather than up. Losing the third was dumb. Our fourth pick is questionable.

We'll see about the quality, but the quantity was problematic.

I Grade it an B+ could end up better.

The Martin pick is outstanding, many wanted Lawrence in the 1st. Lee had to have a back up with his injury history giving Hitchens the nod. We landed a Safety, a DB, another LB, a big WR and three DLs in this Draft.

A realistic B- to a B+ depending on who you are.

Am I the only one having a hard time digesting this draft? Didn't like how the first three rounds broke, and did not like the pick in the 4th. Liked all the other players, though (including our 1 and 2), and got really good value late.

For an overall deep draft, though, and drawing at a disadvantage early, I have a hard time saying we were anything more than average. I'm going with a C, I think.

I'm with you. C grade at best. I liked last year much better and I thought we had a better hold on what we needed this year. Trading up doesn't impresse me when we need premium picks and bodies . Felt like we reached after Rd 1 and them at the end in 7 just said "well let's go D."

I give this draft a D+. I wanted at least 4 starters from this draft from rounds 1-4 and then getting a surprise up and comer from the 7s. I really only see Martin and maybe Lawrence starting. The rest of the picks could easily be camp fodder. Giving up a 3rd for Lawrence was stupid. Why do we give up picks in a deep draft? What was with the Hitchens pick? I was pissed off after the Hitchens pick today and just said the draft was not worth all the anticipation.

This is my post-draft grade. (Which by the way is totally fine to do). I sincerely hope I regret this grade. But I think the boys were clueless this year after the Martin pick.

Only a C.

The first round choice was solid and smart. The second round trade up screamed recklessness and desperation. That just led into the fourth round choice, which quite honestly is one of the biggest reaches in the Jerry Jones era.

Overall, it was like watching someone who is drunk rise from the table, appear okay for a second, stumble, right themselves, then inexplicably fall flat on their face, get up, dust themselves off, say they are good, then see them wander down the hall, grazing it a few times as they go.

Will this be known as the 'Martin Lawrence Draft'.....you so crazy.....sorry I can't help but see him when I hear those two names

I give it a B just on the first 2 picks....didn't like the way it unfolded, but I like the players

With Street and Hitchens it's hard to tell, but I like Street's size and vertical....another Big to help spell Dez

Really pumped with the 7s and the UDFAs.....Gardner...Dixon....Bishop....Copeland all look like they can contribute quickly

Solid B+.....looks like some guys with attitude and work ethic or dare I say it......RKGs!!!!!
