I’m saying he’s not the guy I’m drafting in round 2 to overtake them. Strictly a receiving TE at this point that needs to improve in his blocking.
He’s a better blocker then you’re giving him credit for.

Kelce is strictly a receiving TE that isn’t good at blocking too btw.

Everyone should be looking for a Kelce right now.

Tight Ends that can block are a dime a dozen.

If blocking is your big issue than Darnell Washington can mail people and at least he has the athleticism and upside to be a Gronkowski.

If we can deal backward into the top third of the second, we should still have several options for a starting TE or LG.

They actually do pretty well in later rounds and I wouldn’t mind having extra picks for a kicker and/or developmental QB and still end up with a starting player as the top pick.
That’s what I’m thinking too. Trade back into top of round two and get your starting left guard there.

I’m not advocating for drafting Johnston…but were his testing #’s really poor?

3 cone would be the only complaint, everything else is very good/great. Not hard to make an argument that he’s comparable to DK Metcalf with a few less pounds.

No, but many people were expecting him to run a 4.3x forty.
- His official forty was 4.52

Also, some draft media expected him to weigh in close to 220 instead of his 212 Pro Day weigh in.

Agreed. IMO something like
-) Will McDonald IV, DE Iowa State or Steve Avila, G TCU
-) Josh Downs, WR North Carolina or Matthew Bergeron, OT/G Syracuse
-) Blake Freeland, OT BYU or Antonio Johnson, S Texas A&M

Yea, I like all 3 players just feel like there’s a handful of better players in each round.

TEs that can block and receive aren't a dime a dozen.

TE seems to be an area McCarthy wants to utilize more. Kincaid is basically a tall WR. If that's what McCarthy wants, then go get him. But if he's looking for more versatility given a potential increase in 12 and 13 personnel? Then Kincaid probably isn't the answer.

I disagree about TEs that can block and catch.

In fact we already have one on the roster.

His ceiling is a decent TE. He's not an upper level starter IMO.
Maybe.

He looks way better than Schultz did early on and Schultz was upper level.

A lot of these Michael Mayer types turn into Kyle Rudolph or Cole Kmet after they get picked high in the draft.

Johnston has a body like Gallup but plays soft like DeSean Jackson. Once you hit him in a game it's drop city. But you have to be able to hit him.

I like Turd Fergeson more than most and think the need for a Day 1/2 TE isn't there... I wouldn't hate this draft....

..bbbbbbbbut swap the round 2 TE for a Guard and I'm super happy here.
