This is consistent with what I've said about RBs agents are raising the standards, knowing CBA process/system doesn't work in their favor of getting a second contract. I'm guessing we'll more this from the RB position.

At last report, the Chargers and Melvin Gordon were still significantly apart in terms of contract value.

And Gordon may be realizing he’ll never close that gap with the Chargers.

According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, Gordon’s agent asked the Chargers to trade the veteran running back last week

How does that saying go?

"Wish in one hand..."?

I think it just the RB position taking a stance coz they're at the bottom of the life cycle pole. They see what happened to Bell having to play on a tag and hear Titan's OC admits he plans to ride the hell out of Derrick Henry this season.

Front offices are viewing running backs as oil filters - buy them cheap, use them until they deteriorate, discard for a new and younger one. Pour your money into OL who can play longer and make Winnie the Pooh look like Walter Payton.

Running backs have to cash in on that second contract as it's the biggest and potentially last that you'll ever receive.

I think some of these guys believe they can copy NBA stars, but they're going to find out that won't work here.

That has been my thoughts as well. They see how NBA stars are basically supplanting g.m.s with regards to contract negotiations and ability to trade themselves to any team they please, and wish to have a similar type of assertive power over NFL executives.

Lol. I assumed this may happen. Don’t be surprised if Elliot’s agent does the same thing. We won’t do it and Elliot May pull a bell and chance the market being set lower. I think that gurly maybe the pink unicorn contract. If SJ was telling the truth and his opening offer was slightly over gurly money then they may want to jump on it. Let’s see if they trade gordon and see if he gets less than gurly.

Exactly........which is why I think we'll see agents taking a more aggressive stance BEFORE they reach the final year of their deals.

NBA not the same as NFL. Different creatures entirely.

Fewer games. More players. More injuries.

I'd love to see the Cowboys offer Elliott and his agent that deal:

"Go and shop yourselves for a trade, you have our permission. Just make sure it includes the first round pick we gave up to draft him in the first place before you can talk contract numbers!"

A hard dose of reality when nobody steps up will bring them back to the negotiating table in a hurry.

They can sure try. But this isn't anything new at all. The running back position has evolved into a chew 'em up spit 'em out meat grinder for years. And if a player doesn't like that, don't sign up for the role. I'm not saying it's fair, or right, I'm saying that's the way it is.

When was the last time you heard of a top 5 RB being traded in this league.
No team in this league will trade for a RB, esp one that is demanding to break the bank.
Gordon will set the bar for and if Zeke gets his deal.
Gordon will take a discount to get out, but only if its to the right market,, he is looking for endorsements, as should any top shelf RB in this league.
Gotta supplement that income somehow, and it will not be from bleeding some small market teams cap...
Its called exposure.
Zeke is playing clean up duty here,, waiting to see what happens with the Gordon situation, might push Zeke out of any leverage.
Why, because there is a very small sample size of teams that would even be willing to consider paying out top shelf cap binding contract demands to even the most elite RB in the league.
That's why Zeke is playing this all wrong, what other team in the league has the exposure more than the Dallas Cowboys?
Young Zeke, stupid agent, stupid advise,,, whatever,, young Zeke you are the RB of the most highly exposed NFL team in the world, and you played your cards all wrong.
You could be a hero, stay out of trouble, score TDs, win SBs for this franchise and then make your bank roll with everyone lining up to sign you to advertise their products.
That deal is off the table now,, you couldn't be mature, stay out of trouble,, nobody today is coming at you to endorse squat.
That's where you make your money as a top shelf RB in this league.
SD cant afford to keep Gordon, but Gordon might find it rather difficult to get out of town if he relies on his agents demands.
Hershel Walker days are over guys,, time to get with the role.

Honestly, I can see Stephen and his agent coming to a mutual agreement. Zeke reports and plays this year with no new deal but Stephen and Jerry promise next year he either gets his deal or they'll trade him. This would be a win win for both Stephen and Zeke. He plays the 4th year which get him more leverage if he has to sit out and Cowboys get time to better prepare the possibility of the team future w/o Zeke.

offer them Zeke and Crawford for Gordon and Donald. ;)

Problem is with guys on 4 or 5 year rookie contracts I wouldn't even sign them to a 2nd contract. Unless that contract was 3 years
