*Merged* Cold Pizza saying Andy Reid to take a leave of absence

It's a bad thing that Andy is going through with his kids right now, but, where does the mom stand in all of this?

It's not just Andy...where was she during all of this?
Truthfully, it doesn't matter if the mom was June Cleaver. Parents can only do so much, especially when the kids are over 18.

Good luck to 'em.

That is very true...

The upbringing of your kids are a reflection on the parents usually. I've heard some say, well, Andy spends to much time coaching and maybe that is why his kids are running wild...so, I just brought her up because it's not all on Andy...

Anyway, no big deal, really...I'm sure things will get worked out. There are hundreds, thousands, of households that are not named Reid that have way more problems then this.

I love my kids, but, man oh man, I worry so much about them when they are out...! I should have done what my childhood friend did at age 19 and got the vascectomy(sp) done...he's been married for 24 years and he has no worries about children.

Your children are a wonderful thing in your life, but, they can tear your heart out in a New York second...!

:eek::

I've never liked their fans, but Reid is a great coach and even better person. I really hope things get better with regard to his sons.

He is a great guy. I feel bad that his sons have gone down this path because he sure isn't the kind of man who would tolerate this.
It's tough being a coach in the NFL and a family man. As both a father and a son, I know how important it is for a father to be there for you, especially in the younger years. But being a head coach in the NFL is demanding. You hear about Gruden going home at 10 at night and coming back in at 3:30 in the morning.

Incidentally I am in the Philly area and have seen/followed the news. Both kids have a history of problems - this isn't the first run-in for either of them. Andy is doing the right thing, taking some time to help set things right.

I would not be surprised at all if this one month absence turns into a one year absence and Marty Morningweg takes over just for this year.

Yep! I feel for him. I spent 43 years as a police officer..seen a lot of kids take the wrong
road. Some of them live long enough to make it to prison..others to the morgue. Some make it all the way back...Slow process. Stay with it Andy and don't give up..Let them
know no matter how hard it gets, they can always come home..:hammer:

i've always thought highly of reid and even moreso now. maybe he should have seen it coming, but that's hard to do - see such "bad" in those you love. while it took a wreck, some drugs and a gun incident in a short span to get his attention, when they got it - he's done the right thing to stand by them, 100%. i applaud him for that and i hope he's able to pull things back onto the right road.

coaching aside, his family is most important and i'm glad to see him react that way. kinda validates the high opinion we seem to have for the man/coach.

I don't think a month or two off is going to fix the issues with his sons right now.

It will be a long drawn-out process.

These guys will have to want to change first.

Good luck to Andy and his family. I myself did stupid things as a kid. Hope they find the right path.

Tough situation with his sons, I'll bet that has everything to do with this.

My prayers are with him and his family, ... what a tough time.

Yes, I bet you are correct.

should that actually happen, i do hope the eagles ride it out with him and show "family" there as well. reid has been one of the best things for the eagles franchise and i hope they can work it out to where if he does take a year, he can still come back the following year.

asking an awful lot of the franchise though.

Good post. He has been great for them and the NFL and that would be classy of the Eagles if it came to that.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Eagles coach Andy Reid will leave the team for a month to deal with family issues, a decision that comes less than two weeks after two sons got into separate legal trouble on the same day.

The team said the leave of absence will last through mid-March. Eagles president Joe Banner was to discuss the matter at an afternoon news conference.

Reid is also the team's head of football operations. If he does not rejoin the Eagles until the middle of next month, he will miss the NFL scouting combine and the start of free agency. NFL teams may begin voluntary offseason workouts March 19. Reid will be back for the NFL draft April 28-29.

Garrett Reid, 23, tested positive for heroin after he caused a traffic accident Jan. 30, police said. No charges have been filed, but prosecutors are looking at the case. Police have said he could be charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Britt Reid, 21, was arraigned on drug and weapons charges. He is accused of pointing a handgun at another driver following a dispute and faces a felony charge of carrying a firearm without a license as well as misdemeanor charges of lying to authorities, simple assault, making terroristic threats and possession of a controlled substance.

what's going on with his sons?

My prayers to Reid and his kids. Unfortunately, if the same situation occurred in Dallas, you know everyone in Philly would respond with a resounding "Dallas sucks!!!"
