So. . . Dez came to my hometown for a terribly managed autograph signing where they underestimated the amount of Cowboy's fans in El Paso, TX.
About 5000 fans showed up for a signing that was supposed to take place at 2pm-430pm. They only sold 250 tickets for autographs at $50 a piece. Sent everyone else home. So.... We were basically SOL...
My girl and I decided to stick around and see if we could catch a pic of Dez from far. Then I saw a guy walk by with a huge super bowl ring. I said who is that??
My girl got to talking to him, and it was Dez's advisor David Wells. He is the guy responsible for saving all the Cowboy's butts when they get in trouble (i.e. Michael Irvin, PacMan, and many others you probably don't ever hear about) thus earning him a ring (1995 SB XXX).
He finally said, "Hold on, Ill be sending someone for you."
In 5 minutes a girl came by and said, you two come here, Dez wants to see you. WooHoo!
We were escorted into the room where he was having lunch. There he was, the man 88. He asked us how we were doing. I said great now.
Then I said to Dez, "I heard you're gonna go after those 2000 yards this year!"
He said, "WHAT!" "You know the media just creates all that hype man, I never said that, I just said it was possible by anyone."
I said, "Well I'm not the media, are you gonna go for it?"
He said, "You know this man, I'll get it, You'll see."
I said, "Take this game over Dez, we need you to step up and get us to the next level. You know when you're on, no one can stop you. Get us there Dez."
He said, "Were gonna surprise a lot of people this year." "Just watch"
Overall really good experience. He has a lot of positive energy. Looks like a good kid. Sky's the limit for him.
