I know it's just a Dolphins blog, but supposedly some Dolphins "officials" think their safeties are better than ours, which ain't saying much with Roy's maligned reputation. Just thought it was interesting enough to post.

Miami Has Better Safeties Than Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys may be revving up for another stab at a Super Bowl, at least in the eyes of their fans, but they may need to get better safeties. If Miami Dolphins officials can say that the Dolphins have better safeties than the Cowboys, well, I guess the safeties in Dallas suck.

While the “officials” name was not released, a few sites have reported that one of the Phins officials actually has made that claim and when you think about it, they would probably have a good idea if that is true, considering that half of the Dolphins officials were taken from Dallas.

Who better to know the Dallas Cowboys safeties than Cowboy’s Miami’s secondary coach Todd Bowles. ”Jason has a lot of speed and I like what I see, as much as you can like in shorts and a T-shirt“, speaking of Jason Allen. Yes, coach, we are still a ways away from getting pads on and well, Jason hasn’t been all that the last 2 years.

Bowles was not disclosed as the “official” and likely wasn’t. Looking at the Cowboys secondary, specifically safety, we find only 5 true safeties on their roster and one of those is still a questionable talent these days. Of course I’m talking about Roy Williams.

Williams was a very hard hitting safety and then for whatever reason, you can ask Greg Ellis, he wasn’t. In fact many a Dallas fans were calling for him to be traded instead of Anthony Fasano. Who by the way has a new nickname…more on that in a minute.

After the Pro-bowl Safety Williams (yes he did make the pro-bowl), is Courtney Brown who enters his 2nd season, rookie Dowayne Davis, 6 year veteran Pat Watkins, and the very talented Ken Hamlin. A guy who many Dolphins fans were hoping to see in Miami this year.

So while those “listed” safeties on the Cowboys site are hardly anything to sneeze at, they are not a blistering list of Super Bowl bound safeties either and if you compare them to the Miami Dolphins, well, at least in experience…yeah we got Dem Boyz’.

Chris Crocker is the latest addition to the unit and the 6 year veteran is expected to improve a unit that struggled with injury last season. The Dolphins also landed Keith Davis formerly of the Cowboys and he is expected to make an impact on special teams and will compete for one of the package spots in the secondary.

The Dolphins do however have a few guys that have shown glimpses of becoming stalwarts on the defense. Yeremiah Bell is emerging as a leader provided he can recover from yet another major injury, this time an Achilles. Jason Allen for all the garbage he has gone through began to show serious glimpses of his talent late last season and it appears that so far he is winning over his coaches.

Courtney Bryan who didn’t play horribly last season returns for his 2nd year and Renaldo Hill is returning after his season ending injury last year. Miami has some experience back there, whether or not that will translate into success largely depends on the front 7’s supporting cast of lineman and linebackers. In that area, proven, Dallas has the definitive edge and because of that, their safeties do not have to be stellar…yet.

Whether Roy Williams returns to his former Pro-Bowl self or continues his downward spiral, or for that matter suits up for another team, is not really the issue at hand. It’s youth behind him. If he can’t return, the guy everyone will look to is Hamlin…if they are not already and if they aren’t they should be.

Miami’s safeties better than the Cowboys? Maybe, but there is a lot more to being better safeties than running around the field in T’s and shorts…but of course Todd Bowles already knows that doesn’t he? For now, the comparisons between the Dolphins and the Cowboys can stop right there. While the Cowboys may or may not choke in the playoffs this year, they will at least be in the playoffs…regardless of who’s safeties are better.

So I did mention that Anthony Fasano has a new nickname, apparently Bill Parcells calls him “General Hospital” and has told him that he should wear scrubs. Fasano is recovering from surgery but is expected to be ready for camp. Fasano said that he believes the Dolphins got the better end of the trade that brought him and Akin Ayodele to Miami. Now that I will agree with.

So long as RW is back there -- until he proves otherwise -- it's hard to argue.
Actually it is when you realize the Dolphins have nothing at either position.

I thought about that before posting it, but it's supposedly about our overall situation at safety. They named six different guys. But yeah, it always comes back to Roy.

I would take either of our starting Safeties over any Safety on their roster.

If I were a Dolphins fan, this line would make me feel all warm and fuzzy..."Courtney Bryan who didn’t play horribly last season returns for his 2nd year " So what this guy is trying to do is compare one of the worst teams in the league to ours, and decides to quote Todd Bowles??? please...

This guy may want to compare his team against other teams in their division...

If the Dolphins are so loaded with talent, why did they just win 1 game and that was in OT if I remember correctly?

They are so green with envy it is not even funny. The Dolphins have maybe 2 or 3 guys on their entire team that would make our 53 and they are talking chit?

In all seriousnes. I have been critical but not a Roy hater IMO.

Having said that, I do not think the Phins have a single player on their roster that I would trade Roy straight up for.

I am not including any of their drafted rookies. I love the potential of Jake Long, but potential is all he is at this point.

I love Jason Taylor, but A) he is a DE and not a OLB and B) he is 34 years old.

I think Jerry Porter has seen his best days.

After that it is slim pickings.

...passing stats this year that will give us a better insight into the Miami safeties.

Odds are they will have a harder time being effective with the rebuilding Miami is doing.

Why exactly are the Dolphins obsessed with us? We play them every 4 years and it is not like we are going to meet them in the SB any time this century.

Shouldnt they be compairing their safeties to the other teams in their division, like the Jets, Bills, and Pats?

Arent these the teams they are going to need to beat to actually sniff the playoffs ever again?

Also, what the hell was up with that choke in the playoffs again line? If the Dolphins want to talk about choking in the playoffs and not winning the big one, they need to look no further than Mr. Marino.

Owns all these passing records and has jack to show for it in the trophy case.

And Fasano thinks the Dolphins got the better of the deal. Akin Ayodele and Fasano for what? Didn't we get a 4th rd pick for both of those. If I were in Fasano's shoes, I sure hope I'd be worth more than just a 4th rd pick.

Miami thinks they have better safeties. Okay, that tells me Sparano, Parcells and Ireland don't like our safeties. Not surprising. I'm sure they have all the confidence in the world in Keith Davis. This is just Parcells playing mind games with the Cowboys and Roy Williams. I wouldn't doubt it if Parcells would actually want to trade for S Roy Williams.

The Cowboys even turned that 4th round pick in to a 4th and 5th which netted Tashard Choice and Orlando Scandrick. I'll take Choice and Scandrick, Fasano has been a major disappointment and Ayodele just didn't fit Wade's scheme.

So would I. However, I sure wouldn't have minded drafting Jason Allen. I think he will have a solid career. The only thing that scared me about him was that hip injury or whatever it was, and at the time, nobody was sure if the injury would ever be more than 80%. But for anyone who says he is better than what we have needs an enema.

Umm..

help me out..were not BOTH our safties Pro Bowlers this year..?

And how many did Miami have..?

And this supposedly came from a Miami 'official'..?

Probably the same 'official' that thought Fasano was the next Witten and was going to be the savior of the much publicized but never used 2-TE offense.

What blathering idiotic reporting.

The Miami media is going to really be taking it on the chin in the years ahead.

I don't think they are ready for all the misdirection quotes and "cloak-and-dagger-the media-is-my-personal-toy" BP mentality that is about to ooze from all corners of the Miami bunkers starting in July.

This ought to be fun.

This article is as big a waste of bandwidth as any piece of "analysis" I've ever seen. The Dolphins stink. They should at least prove they can be better than the worst team in the league before their pundits start slagging any, and I mean any team, unit, player, coach, etc. Glad to hear Jason Allen looks good in shorts, though. Wonder how he looks in Oakleys and a Speedo?
