Funny thing is...

Duke 5-9 207 pounds....don't want

Coleman 5-11 211 Pounds
Abdullah 5-9 205 pounds

Might just be that they feel he can not pass protect but that is a problem for many rookie RBs.

Oh well.

None are as good of a fit as Ajayi, whom is lesser than the top three everydown RBs.

Gurley, Gordon and Yeldon all add something special with their running athleticism and strength, 20 + carries per game ideally requires the size to carry the bulk of running plays. They also possess great vision to boot and all the tools to achieve in the NFL.

In our offense? I'd say at least 20.

I want a back who carries the main load of the rushing. I don't want a guy who has to share carries relatively equally with another back.

20 touches or 20 carries? Murray was the only RB in the league who carried the ball 320+ times last year. LeSean McCoy had 315, Le'Veon Bell had 290 and Marshawn Lynch went for 280. All three missed one game.

Murray averaged 24 and a half. Historically, that's a lot.

Duke Johnson is VERY talented and will produce in the NFL. But he will get hurt and should NOT carry the load at 20+ per game. He's a rotational guy that will add explosion to any offense IMO.

I like him-I really do, but only if he slips due to injury concerns. I don't think Dallas is going to have a bell cow next year. At least not on paper to start the season.

That's why I said in our offense. With the way we want to run the ball and maintain what we did last year, the featured back, or "bell cow", has to get at least 20 carries a game. Otherwise you're either running a tandem or not running the ball as much as you did last season.

Yep.

I'm not interested in seeing any back brought in and given more than say 18 carries a game if you can help it.

More than that and the guy is going to get beat to dust and you'll be back spending another high draft pick on one in 4 years.

Plus you create a statistical "monster" who's going to end up getting or wanting a contract that's more than his worth.

Nope. Give me a guy who'll get about 1,200 yards a season, another who's getting about 1/2 that amount and another who's getting 1/2 of that.

It's funny that a team that had a 5'9" 210 lb RB that just happens to own the NFL All TIme Rushing Title wouldn't be interested in a 5'9" 207 lb RB that is faster than the all timer.

You want a RB the Cowboys could draft somewhere in the 4th round who could start?

Duke would qualify.

The Cowboys may have to move up to get him, but I think he could gain 1,000+ yards a season with this offensive line.

Another special Florida kid. I don't know if Duke has the balance and toughness that Emmitt did, but as posted earlier, the ideal RB is not usually the biggest or fastest. BTW, Emmitt was willing and able in pass protection.

And I am not suggesting that Duke = Emmitt. Just stating that size wise I am pretty sure that Johnson is in the sweet spot of that study about RB's and size.

Emmitt Smith was a special talent and while he not big, he knew how to avoid a hit.

You cannot just look at height/weight and make assumptions.

From what I have seen from Johnson, he is not especially good at avoiding hits and definitely does not have the lower leg power Emmitt Smith had to drive through tackles.

I think anyone should stop when they're really about to make a comparison to a hall of fame player. Those guys usually have some major talents and a load of drive to go with it. Also I'd guess that the average size of a defender in the NFL has gone up some since Emmitt and has sky rocketed since Dorsett.

This is my feeling about Duke Johnson, he is an explosive back that would be excellent in a rotation.

The Cowboys have publicly stated they want a bell cow, I do not think Duke is a fit for what they are saying they want.

However, he has been in the outside blocking scheme on the college level, the question is does he fit the offensive scheme and type of back the Cowboys desire.

If the Cowboys miss out on Gurley and the other power inside runners, then perhaps they use a rotation and draft a back like Duke.

Size alone is not the issue, it is size and power inside running ability that is the core issue.

I do not think they have come out and said that, but Garrett's "dirty yards" comment and whom they have shown interest in gives it away.

Don't get crazy here. There are about 10 backs in this draft that are an upgrade over Randle.

Duke's not one of them IMO.

Gurley
Gordon
Ajayi
Coleman
Davis
Cobb
Allen
Langford

After that you can't convice me . Don't like the johnsons or Abdullah .
