Its still very possible that's the case. It could be more of a negotiation around guaranteed money, length of contract, no trade/franchise clauses, etc. This is a lot more than just the AAV.

Even if not though I can't really blame Micah given the lack of spending the Cowboys have done elsewhere. Why should he give a discount if Jerry has no interest in participating in free agency. Even after this years uptick in spending they are still 28th in the league in FA spending this offseason.

Did Micah Parsons ever use the word “discount” in deference to a contract extension? I understood he only indicated he did not have to necessarily be the “highest paid”.

Now that Jerry has disrespected Micah and his agent by saying he did not know Micah’s agent’s name Micah will be signing the largest non-quarterback player’s compensation contract in NFL history.

At some point the other owners will have to deal with Jerry Jones. He is the league’s problem.

People always forget that word "necessarily" too. That suggests that there could have been some conditions on his highest paid comment. He may have been fine taking less had Jerry acted quicker. He may have been fine taking less had the Cowboys spent more in free agency. He may have been fien taking less for a shorter deal, more guaranteed money, added player opt outs in his deal, etc.
