Michael Hamlin

That pic was Patrick Watkins, he mistook it for Hamlin. But said that he saw Hamlin get up there too.
I don't think so Bob. If you know who posted it and could find it I'd appreciate it.

Hamlin broke his wrist in the last pre-season game and missed the first 6 weeks of the season.

he was good in college and showed promise that he could be a starter one day in this league
out of curiosity...what promise? Did he ever even see the field on defense?

I'm just wondering what makes people so optimistic about him. I'm not doubting the guy. I just thought maybe he was some big time college player that slipped inexplicably or something. It just seems odd that a guy drafted in a round in which most players don't become starters would have such solid support.

Edit: sm0kie13's answer makes sense. Wasn't there when I started my response.

Could have been a higher draft pick if I remember right. But injuries in his Jr. & Sr. years held him back. But when healthy. Showed flashes of a 3rd round or higher.
Would be a steal if he stays healthy and pans out. Worth the chance at #6 at the time he was supposedly healthy, but was some risk.

Straight from his tiger mates:

2 slow2 play fs in the league and rode the backs of good DE's LB's with rush and drops respectively. Good hands but slow and just avg at best at this level. Could develop but will always b football slow. That's why he fell. FS can't b slow.

Without looking it up I think he was a 5th round pick. He was projected as a 2nd rounder his junior year. He didn't have as good a senior season and fell in the 'polls'. He looks like a SS and can play. He's a hopeful.

People are optimistic about him because Ken Hamlin is the worst safety in the NFL - haven't you heard?

In all seriousness, it goes with what sm0kie said above. He's shown some promise that he could be a starter at the S position in the league one day, but he's not there yet, obviously.

actually people are optomistic to see him this year because the coaching staff raved about his intelligence and athletic ability.

I look forward to this preseason. Butler, both williams boys on defense, mike hamlin, robert brewster, stephen hodge, stephen mcgee.

Just like 05 and 06 when we saw more of romo and some others the preseason will be extremely important this year and lucky us we get 5 games.

Brett Maxie?

Yep that is correct, that was me. It was watkins not hamlin.

My pic of hamlin jumping was really blurry and I didnt get him the second time through.

Newman and watkins can bump their head on the moon.

I'm on my iPhone sorry. He looks like a SS bc he is just a slow fs

Not sure if speed is what separates a SS from a FS. I've seen Hamlin play in college on multiple occasions. He's faster than his timed 40. And he looks like a SS. First time I saw him play my first thought was this guy is going to make a good SS. I'm glad his senior play was disappointing to some because we stole the guy in the fifth.

If his teammates say he's too slow to be good at this level then he has a lot to prove. Players know what it takes. Nobody I'd shy about saying he is slow and his d pressure from ends and lbers gave him some easy ducks 2 grab

Right. I think many fans associate FS with speed, and being smaller and SS with power and being slightly bigger. Maybe in some schemes this can be partly true. I don't think it matters in the Cowboys Defense. I could be wrong though.

Traditionally I think the SS might have been a little slower in general. But that's not what teams were looking for. The SS just was in the box more. Woodson could cover and play in the box. He wasn't slow.

Right now safeties have to cover first and play run second. Both safeties have to be fast and cover. They also have to play the run. I'd say they are more interchangeable. If you had your way then all safeties would be the size of Taylor Mays and just as fast. They'd also have to cover like a corner which I don't think Taylor can do but will see.

Pretty much. The FS has to have better coverage ability and more speed, they're the last line of defense. Speed goes a long way when you have a guy sitting in centerfield, he can close quicker on deep routes and fight for the ball. SS will always play closer to the line of scrimmage so they need to be able to wrap up and have adequate size to bring down an NFL back while also being able to cover a TE down the seams.

4.61

draft a big corner for conversion or a safety with SPEED.
sub 4.4

Ball too small. Hamlin too slow

40 times are really not going to show you the range of a safety. That's just silly. It's not a straight line speed position like cb.
