Michael Huff released?

Yet now he's on the street.. imagine that?

17 penalties, gave up 8 TD's.. that's worse than Newman. Our goal is to upgrade. I can see how you got confused though.

Remember Jenkins bad year in 2010 but bounced back this year.

You over looking other great stats

39.4 percent completion rate when throwing at him was the lowest of any player targeted at least 60 times in 2010

in 2011 playing for a bad team that gave up the most penalties in the NFL not just Routt. A bad defense that didn't get alot of pressure on the QB.
HE still held opponents to a low completion percentage (47.4 percent) and allowed less than 6 yards per pass attempt for the season.

Now you can use those stupid penalties and giving up 8 TDs in contract talks, but I don't think all those were his fault.

What did Mike Jenkins give up n 2010. He had a ton of penalties and TDs but bounced back.

Different sources different numbers.

But regardless. To dump a guy after one season screams loudly the amount of suck the player represented for that one season.

It was for salary cap reasons, he was released.

SO if Mario Williams isn't brought back or some of the other free agent players aren't resigned by their teams, is that the same issue.
Houston isn't going to be able to resgin Williams or the saints are going to be able to resign NIcks due to Salary cap reason, does that make them bad players.

Routt was over paid no doubt, and the GM wanted to clear cap room and he was an easy cap cut. That doesn't make him a bad player.

Rout had the second most pass interference penalties of any corner in 2010 too.. doesn't seem like it was a fluke. Guy just commits alot of penalties.. and while his completion rate given up was good the past two years, it was awful all the other years. Why choose this guy when there are so many other good and younger corners available out there?

Yea, they were wrong because no one gave him the deal he wanted, and the team that did sign him wants to cut him now.. good call.

They were wrong in the sense they didn't need to upgrade their DBs.

he wasn't awful, Newman and Ball is awful.[/qute]

17 penalties, most in the NFL, sounds pretty awful to me, man... but he played pretty well before that, and he allowed under 50 per cent completions last year, and he's quite fast... maybe I'd invest a reasonable contract on him if I thought that last year was an anomaly... actually, it was mostly a terrible, terrible 3 game streak to end the season, not the whole season-- 9 penalties in 3 games, ouch...

There's an argument for, there's an argument against...

..and that being the case, why not just go for the other, younger, better FA CB's out there?

I watched ten or eleven Raiders games last season and Huff has a major wart that Dallas would have to cover for. Huff would be somewhat of an upgrade in the passing game, but a major step down in the run game. he is horrific in run support. He constantly whiffs on tackles. My work-out buddy (monster Raiders fan) was stunned when they signed him to that contract last offseason. Dallas would need to make sure their corners can tackle if they signs him.

Perhaps the Cowboys think those last 3 games were an aberration... perhaps Rob Ryan is why they think that, he does have some first hand knowledge of Routt's strengths and weaknesses, and I assume some idea of what he (Rob) wants in a DB...

If that's the case, their interest makes perfect sense to me... but if he's expecting anywhere near what the Raiders were paying him (he won't get it), just walk on by...

I have heard that the Raiders will release Huff, Wimbley, and Seymore.

Ryan didn't want Huff last year so please no threads on him this year.
Also Ryan traded Wimbley to Oakland when he was in Cleveland so I doubt he will want him here.
Seymour will cost and arm and a leg and can't play 3-4 DE anymore. But he still a very good 4-3 DT.

I dunno if he didn't want him. Dallas wasn't interested is all I remember.

But if Wimbley is available, I'd be mighty tempted to give him a look.

I would love to get him on the cheap. I think he's a very solid player and from what I have seen he is very well spoken with his head on straight and he's a hard worker.

If he becomes available, he might become the guy I would want most in FA on the defensive side of the ball.

You wanna talk about the type of guys this team is trying to find, I don't know if you can find a better example than Wimbley. Unless he has some skeletons I don't know about, this guy is top notch all around.

If he becomes available, he would be an absolute must.

Please tell me this guy gets cut.

He's 28. He's been productive and he appears to be a very well rounded and hard working player.

Absolute no brainer.

Oakland wasn't that far behind Dallas in sacks, trailing by 3.

I don't see how you can shift blame for penalties to anyone else. TDs may be debatable.

I'd rather not wish on a hope and a prayer that a guy somehow shakes off terrible play.

If he wants a 1 year deal at a low cost, he can have it. I wouldn't commit anything to the guy and I damn sure wouldn't let it change my approach to the offseason.
