NFL Network analyst and former Cowboys great Michael Irvin joined the show to talk about Dallas firing Wade Phillips.

"I'm certainly sure this was the right move after I saw what I saw Sunday night," Irvin said. "The virus of losing to the point where you don't give effort .... is the worst virus to root out of a team."

......

Irvin also weighed in on Jason Garrett. He said Garrett put some of the greatest offenses the Cowboys have ever had. "Jason Garrett, through hard work, has earned this opportunity for the next eight weeks."

I saw that interview yesterday on NFLN and thought he hit the nail on the head with pretty much every comment he made.

Yeah on NFL Network, MI had a Big Smile on he's face :D as I did..:)

I miss Irvin .. between him and Randy White, there's probably not two more loyal former Cowboys players. To be retired so long yet still have the passion and fire they have for the Cowboys just makes me wish we had more players like them on the team now, if not in talent at least in emotion.

Uh no.... Reggie Herring or Ray Sherman have earned this oppurtunity... Jason earned what Wade also got...

Irvin needs to be WR coach next year. I am serious. These deadbeats need his passion.

Yo, Mikey. The root of tha virus is the root of the evil as we twine to get away from temptation.

I agree Irvin as receivers coach would be excellent...but I wouldn't go so far to call all of our receivers "deadbeats". Miles is the hardest working man in the league and Dez is Irvin 2.0...for realz, I think one day we will look @ Dez the same way we look at Irvin and other Cowboy legends. He was born to wear the star and we could use 52 more of him.

I've done as much for the success of this team that Garrett has, but I suppose somehow he has "earned" it. I guess beating some teams in the regular season and putting up 3 points in the playoffs is good enough to earn head coach status. That's hotness.

I agree. It's the only reason I ever bag on Aikman or Emmitt. Those guys don't wear the star like Irvin does. Irvin can criticize you and still be a loyal Cowboy.

I am down with Irvin being a Cowboys coach, if he has an interest in that.

Never heard of him being interested in coaching but if he did, wow.

Anyone who doesn't think he could be an emotional leader as a coach, well, they probably never saw him play.

I caught part of one of the '90s Dallas/GB playoff games on ESPN classic awhile back.

One of the GB players, maybe Jurkevic, took offense at something Eric Williams did, and a little scuffle broke out.
Irvin was immediately right in the middle of it, taking charge (and it was clear who was in charge, no doubt) and standing up for his teammates.

I was sorta hoping Dez Bryant would do the same after Roy Williams got helmet-to-helmet'd and Dez was in the vicinity.

Couldn't agree more

Love me some Mike... he could help set things right... if only he could put down the pipe...

There are alot of other coaches on that staff that should have been name Head coach, they picked the wrong guy again. Ray Sherman should have been the guy.

Heck, every one knew that, the question was does Wade start the 2nd half as coach or spectator? It was obvious early Wade was gone and he had to know mid way through the 2nd quarter he was gone. (Man, thats got to be tough, knowing your gone and having to go out in public and finish the job and answer questions later. I would hate to be in that position.)

I can't believe someone hasn't hired him by now...unless he doesn't want to be a coach.

If he wants too...there should be no reason NOT to hire him in Dallas.

He seems born to do it.

This guy is a Cowboy through and through.

They may well get there chance over the next 2 months. But I would not root for failure just yet. Hopefully someone can get this turned around so heading into next year is not a despair pit from hell.

Give the current group a chance and see if anything happens you like. Never know when the next Sean Payton will emerge, hopefully while still with the cowboys this time.

I think the problem with Irvin as a coach is that he might not have the patience for the position.

If anyone should have been a coach from those "Nineties" teams it was Darren Woodson, but even he feels he is far too impatient to do it....imagine a superstar like Irvin.

I seriously cannot believe somebody could even conceive of posting something like this. You've contributed as much to the success of the team as the OC? I can understand being skeptical of Garrett, but this is preposterous.
