I agree. But some jerseys needed to be. Jackie Robinsons comes to mind, so does Kobe Bryant. It wouldn't be his to retire. It would have been Drew's.
Retiring numbers is stupid. Always has been.

Must be an old head, 88 is more associated with Irvin.

Jackie Robinsons number is retired by all MLB teams.I agree about Robinson but not Kobe the perv
Depends on who you ask. Pearson and Irvin are both in the HOF and Drew wore it first. I associate it with both of them, two of my favorite players to watch.
Which is part of the reason jerseys get retired, so the OGs aren't forgotten.Must be an old head, 88 is more associated with Irvin.

I agree. That's why, if you do it at all, you do it extremely selectively.True, but it starts a slippery slope where you end up with no numbers to assign eventually.
Because clearly he was here before the ORIGINAL #88!!
Personal insults. Nice.Idiot...he settled out of court and then said sorry for it so smoke=fire...remove head from s and
I think we forget them quicker when they're retired. Whenever I see 88 out there it conjures thoughts of all the great wrs we had wear it. Out of sight, out of mind.Which is part of the reason jerseys get retired, so the OGs aren't forgotten.
