This is so sad. My best wishes for Michael and his family. It is an awful disease and caring for these patients is such a hard job. I hope they find a cure soon. So many good people miss taken too soon, and their families suffer for years.

Early onset Alzheimer's is a hard, hard diagnosis. I had a friend diagnosed in his early 50s. He didn't make it another 10 years. :(

Dang!! 58 is so young to get that disease!! My Dad had it, but he was 68 when he was first diagnosed. Terrible terrible disease. My biggest fear is that my Dad passed on that gene to me. Praying for Michael.
Yup. Same for me. My dad started that decline around 70. Very sad. Very scary.

All forms of dementia are cruel and inhuman but Alzheimers is the worst. I would not wish dementia on my worst enemy.

I hope the Irvin's family receives all the emotional support it can get. Only those, who have gone through this with someone they love, understand why.
Yup, a lady I work with had to take care of both parents with the disease.....she must have the patience of Mother Theresa.

Must be one of those things you can't fully grasp unless one deals with it.

Michael Irvin reveals his 58-year-old wife has Alzheimer’s disease

Published June 18, 2024 10:16 AM

This is very sad. I feel for Michael and especially his wife, plus their family. My grandmother (paternal) had it since her late 40s and it was so hard to see it slowly eat her mind and abilities away until she passed away at the age of 72. Her body was in very good health, except for her mind no thanks to Alzheimer's. It's frustrating how we live in the greatest and most scientifically advanced country in the world, yet since the 70s there has been pretty much nothing to come close for a cure or to help improve one's health from such a devastating mind-seeping disease. I mean...what are medical scientists doing??? It's been almost 50 years since the medical industry starting learning about Alzheimer's, yet nothing has been discovered or created to either eradicate or improve living with such a deadly disease.

She has put up with so much ....... this is so sad.
That was my first thought too. She’s been through so much. Her husband cheats on her, in the public eye, constantly seeing her husband in trouble and now this. This sucks.

That’s really terrible news for the Irvin family.

I had my mother diagnosed at the beginning of the lockdowns. My dad had just broken his hip at their home and my mother couldn’t make any sense of the situation. That’s when I finally figured out she had some sort of cognitive issue and took her to a specialist to get diagnosed. I suspect she had dementia/Alzherimer’s for at least 5 years prior to that, as she began making outrageous claims about me to my dad around that time….and my dad believed them and would confront me from time to time about them. My mother wavered between normal, depressed, nasty and accusatory for most of my life, so I didn’t recognize her cognitive decline until I took her to get diagnosed and I felt guilty about that for a while after I took her to get diagnosed.

To all those on this board that have dealt with this soul sucking disease, I feel for you. The drugs to slow its progress have shown to have limited efficacy and only in patients who are in the early stages of dementia. Some of you may have read about the faked Beta Amyloid study that was uncovered recently…..such immoral, unethical and soul crushing acts by a group of researchers. I’ve read that as of right now, your best defense is to sleep well and most importantly exercise, although these are correlative measures. I have also read that gut health may provide a solution for some dementia patients. A doctor in California performed a fecal matter transplant on an elderly man with moderate dementia and he returned to a normal cognitive level for his age after a month. I don’t know if his cognitive level lasted over an extended period, but I have messaged that doctor and will try to find out.

I feel for him. My Wife was diagnosed with GAD-65, AE & Lupus at 38. She is Medication resistant to the AE/GAD65 meds, So she is in cognitive decline every day. Just spending as much time as we can before she goes. So i hope he's spending as much time with her as he can. Praying for them.

I work with this population every day. It's heart wrenching. Seeing the heartbreak of a child or spouse that no longer is recognized by their parents or wife/husband. Brutal. So sorry for Mike and their family.

This is not a disease just the person who is diagnosed with it has. It's a disease that the entire family has through that one person. It's a terrible affliction. Prayers for the Irvins.

Yep, she is to the point that she needs fulltime care. This isn't the start....the sad thing is at her age she could live this way for years!!!!
Not going to happen with early onset like this. With early onset they go pretty quick. She probably has 3-5 years if she is lucky. Really sad.

I can't even begin to say how much I identify with this situation that Michael Irvin finds himself in. My own father, whom I looked up to for my entire life as his son was cursed with a similar condition in his later years. Needless to say, both his life and mine as well changed drastically, however, as he lost his short-term memory and became a mere shell of what he once was. In his later years in the 86-year range and beyond, his condition gradually deteriorated into what was one that rendered him unable to care for himself.

I wouldn't wish that upon anyone that anyone I know would want to experience for themselves. Eventually, he ended up in a nursing home facility, since I had to work for a living and my mother died when his condition was at its worst. I did the best I could to see to it that his care was kept good enough to serve him well enough to get by with the help that the nurses, doctors and I could provide for his welfare.

Here's hoping Michael Irvin is able to provide the kind of care that his wife needs to make her years of old age comfortable enough to survive her condition in such a way as to make her later years bearable enough for everyone concerned.

I'd like to offer my heartfelt sympathy for both him and his wife to make the future years bearable for her and himself, as well. I know that he'll be challenged to keep her comfortable and still maintain himself enough to carry on with his life and duties to his wife. My sincere prayers for Michael and his entire family will be forthcoming. I hope everyone in the family will support his wife and her condition admirably.

AIDS is almost gone. Cancer is not fatal if detected early. Hearts have been transplanted many times. But yeah, you’re right, doesn’t seem like anything has happened breakthrough with Alzheimer’s.

'maryquality' - sincerely hoping the affliction-disorder doesn't appear in you - or any of your relatives.
I know you're being proactive in finding a procedure or treatment that will counteract the process.
Best wishes to you as your family faces that challenge.
