Michael Sam | Defensive Lineman
Team: Missouri Tigers

RECENT NEWS

Scouts Inc.'s Steve Muench believes Missouri DE Michael Sam projects as a day three selection.
"Sam makes the most of his quick first step and low center of gravity by getting under offensive tackles," Muench writes. "He then extends his arms and bends inside or pushes the offensive tackles back. His effort rushing the passer also stands out." Sam will likely get knocked because of his abnormal frame, but we love his James Harrison like style to keep the leverage advantage on the edge. Nov 27 - 12:33 PM

I don't know what that means. I guess he referring to him being short for a DE but kind of high cut (long legs, short torso).

He doesn't really look a good candidate to play 3-4 OLB because he appears awkward changing directions and moving around in the open field. That could help push him down the draft board.

He has a great burst off the line and has a good dip under move. His size is fine as a WDE in Kiffin's defense.

Sam looked very good against A&M. Great motor and he's powerful.

Hopefully we won't be searching for fits in Kiffin's defense in the offseason.

Admit the mistake. Move on. Let the guy retire and enjoy his last two weeks.

Ok, then Marinelli's defense.

It seems to be working well in Seattle.

And the 3-4 seems to be working well in San Francisco. And in Arizona. And in Houston.

Oh, and in New Orleans too. The irony.

7 of the top 10 ranked defenses in the league right now are 3-4 based.

What's the point? Flush that scheme and get back to the superior 3-4.

I don't care which scheme they use. They need to upgrade the talent regardless of scheme.

I don't see any obvious better fit for existing personnel with either scheme. They don't have a 3-4 NT and Ware appears to be the only 3-4 OLB on the team; however, the existing players are obviously not getting it done in the 4-3 either.

part of the problem around here, and hopefully not at VR imo is concerned with Tyronne Crawford and Ben Bass.

For some reason we hear the injury excuse and that Bass and Crawford are out but neither of these guys has shown anything to think they would be effective in this scheme.

Preseason means nothing(see the guy we picked up from Indy). I hope they dont rely on these guys and draft accordingly and have them in the mix, rather than passing on a DE/dT because these guys are returning.

I am hoping for 2 DL in the top 3 rounds, right now the DL position looks pretty strong in the draft, especially if most of the undeclassmen declare.

Michael Sam/DE/Missouri : Michael Sam may lack the ideal measurements NFL evaluators look for in a defensive end, but there’s no denying the impact he has on the game. He has proven to be a disruptive force who consistently wreaks havoc in the offensive backfield. Sam features a good initial burst, high motor and change of direction ability. He’s able to hold up against the run because of his commitment to keeping his pads down and hand usage. However, I have concerns about his arm length. There is also a question on what position will give Sam the best chance to make the most of his talents. At this point, defensive end in a 4-3 system seems like the best fit.2nd Round
