He's a good situational edge rusher. He's good enough to be a 5th or 6th DE on most teams in the league, probably a 3rd or 4th DE on a line as bad as ours, and probably not good enough to make the cut on a line as loaded as St Louis.

He's not a great athlete or a great football player, but he's great at doing one specific thing that's highly coveted in the NFL: rushing the passer.

I see him as being the 4-3 version of Victor Butler. A guy who makes enough plays for fans to want him to start but who won't start because he doesn't do much else great.

OK, but people still aren't getting it that Sam is a strong side guy. He also played at 257 for the Rams, not the 261 being thrown around from the combine. And from what the scouts say, his build is more of a LB but he doesn't have the skills for that position.

If he's a pass rush specialist, then playing the run isn't a priority, is it?

he would not be able to drop....he would not be able to change directions quick enough....he would not be able to run sideline to sideline. He is a marginal NFL prospect. And I say that with no agenda. If he can help your team as a "rushman" against quality starting OL....then your DL needs an updgrade

Sam is too small and too slow to help us. Waste of a practice squad allotment. We should have kept Dixon.

He may be better suited as a 3-4 olb with no coverage responsibilities. Hes definitely no lb in the cowboys current defense though.

I don't think they see him as a specialist since he doesn't have the elite quickness to play either side.

And yet, he seemed to be getting some production. Not bad for a guy that's too slow to exist in the NFL.

Dixon was gone whether Sam was here or not. The guy you mean to be ruing losing, is Will Smith.

You keep pretending the preseason production actually translates. The Cowboys released Wilson, Minter, and Boatright when they had sack success. I'm not saying he can't succeed but put the brakes on.

lol, you're telling me to put the brakes on? The guy is on the practice squad. I'm completely aware of the situation, are you?

If the college and preseason production of a rookie doesn't matter, then what exactly are you trying to gauge the guy on?

I had no idea you were so cautious when it comes to all rookies, or is it just this one rookie?
