In this article, the author argues that it's unlikely Sam will make the Rams' final cut, but that he's a good prospect for the Cowboys. Lard knows we need help on the D line, and Sam is a 4 - 3 DE with a skill set. Of course the fact of his being the first openly gay player has been hyped to death. I'm honestly not worried about that. The one and ONLY thing I care about is if this player can help the Cowboys defense to be better. I would trust the team to not allow this to blow up into a big deal. The truth is every single player on the team has been on a team with a gay player; it's just been with one who kept his mouth shut. Sam isn't going to go about leering at dudes in the locker room. He's a professional. In the off chance he did act in an unprofessional manner, the team can deal with it -- warn him or cut him.
I will say the team should not sign him just to prove how tolerant they are. The priority is to build a winning team, not to be do-gooders. The one and only reason they should consider claiming him off waivers is if he might have the skills we need to make this defense better. Our D line is hurting, especially after the injury to Lawrence. If this guy can make us a better team, sign him. That said, I did not see him play in college. I'm curious as to reactions by those of you who have seen him play.
Of course, if he makes the Rams' roster, there's no issue anyway.
