Michael Strahan on (Larry) "Allenitis"....

To this day, this remains one of the most amazing plays I have ever seen.

I remember watching that Saints game live, seeing that play, and having one of those few moments where I knew I had never seen anything like that before. Allen was standing still as the linebacker started running down the sideline, and he just outran him despite giving away at least 75 pounds. People tend to remember Allen's later years, when his athleticism had dried up and he was left with just the brute strength. But early in his career, when he could move like that, he was an unstoppable force.

That's just abnormal.

Seriously.

My dominant memories of LA are from after his ankle injuries when he was still powerful, but no where near the mobile force that he was when he was young. Holy cow! That is a freakish combination of size and speed.

U would think BIGG would be better. I wish we could be a line like this again.
BIGG has the size, but not the athleticism that Allen had in his prime.

BIGG doesn't have the sheer strength or balance either. Larry Allen's 40 time at 320lbs was the same as mine in high school at 155lbs. (4.6)

Larry Allen played every position on the OL for the Cowboys except Center. He made the Pro Bowl at 3 of those 4 positions. The only one he didn't was RT and that was because he was a Rookie and no one knew how good he was yet.

When he was in his prime I really don't know I anyone was better.

I just want to know such a monster could slip through the cracks and end up at Sonoma state.

Strahan was on the Dan Patrick show this morning and talked about guys that played against Allen and got "Allenitis" meaning, they'd come out of the game after getting the SNOT kicked out of them with a 'hip injury' or a 'back injury' or ANY injury rather than getting abused more from Larry. God I miss him.....I sometimes still dream of him and Erik Williams annihilating people.:(

BTW: any young Cowboys fans that never saw that line play NEED to order the old DVD's from that time: it was poetry in motion. Tui, Nate, E', Larry and Step.....just poetry I tell you.
Poetry is probably the last word I'd use to describe Larry Allen :laugh2:

Him and Erik Williams were so special. Man Erik was so nasty, especially prior to the injury.

Our O-linemen seem very weak these days. I think I read somewhere that Colombo can only bench 315 for a few reps. That's pathetic for an NFL player who weighs 320+.

I hadn't heard that, but it's important to remember that arm length has a lot to do with how much you can bench press, and Colombo is 6'8''. He has to move the weight a lot further than somebody who's only 6'3''.

I think Coach Joe does a great job with this team from a strength and conditioning perspective.

I just think the team's practice habits prevented them from translating their physicality into results on Sunday. It's hard to flip a switch 6 days apart.

But I hope Garrett doesn't get all Jimmy Johnson on us and wear these guys out next year, I think one reason Wade took it easy on them - is because we aren't very deep in a lot of places and can't afford injuries. Or at least that's how I'd hope he would rationalize taking it so easy on so many overpaid and annually underperforming guys.

Like everyone else, I absoluely loved LA. He was simply a beast. However, I've said many times that had Erik Williams not been involved in the car accident and had he maintained his desire, he would have gone down as possibly (make that probably) the best tackle to ever play the game. He was that good. It was ashame we didn't get to see the best of LA and Erik Williams together for many years. They would have went down as the best pair of OL to ever play the game together.

I agree 100% with this post...

Can you imagine Williams and Allen on the same side of the line? You could run all day long on every play...
