ATTENTION!!!! THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL THREAD!

Anyway, yesterday she was in my office building here in Nashville for an "Official visit" but they were having a fund raiser on the floor beneath me. There was relatively few people there, maybe 75 or so showed up. The thing about it that was funny was watching the Secret Service. First of all, access to the building was quite odd in that it was pretty much unfettered. We drove right into the parking garage with no security but when you wanted to leave there was one secret service guy chatting up the female ticket taker at the booth.

Inside the building there were two SS members in the lobby but they just leaned against the wall and talked and didn't stop anyone or anything.

I thought it was funny that they all looked exactly like you would see them in a movie.

When I worked on the two Bush campaigns there were a few of them but most of them were more active in their duties and more toned down. When we entered the elevator my assistant asked why I thought we didn't have to go through security considering who was coming. I thought it was odd as well.

But the SS just seemed very lax in their duties, at least from what I remember from my previous experience.

Anyway, thought I would share because it was kinda funny to see these guys talking into their cuffs and acting all "Secret Servicey".

Not very good news on the SS. I have heard that the Protection Detail is not what it was 10 years ago. Frankly the whole SS does not impress me anymore.

They had more people there I am sure, they just didn't appear to be agents. There is always a group that are obvious secret agents (black suits, white shirt, black tie, sunglasses) and usually an equal amount undercover with everyday attire on.

:laugh2:

You say 75, the news says 450 @ $500+ per ticket. Slight difference in figures there.

I'm sure her detail reflects her own attitude to some degree, I have a feeling she isn't particularly demanding of her detail, but who is in charge of making sure they are alert and on-task?

Well, I think possibly half the crew was at the nearest strip club. So you may have missed out on some top notch agents. :D

I saw the room. There was no way there were 450 people there. Not even in the same ball park. And you don't take the news reports as Gospel do you? LOL!

It is hard to not take this as political since you mention 2 things, how something was "better" during the administration before, and how "bad" it is during this.

Not necessarily. Comparing the actions of agents now versus then is an observation, not a political statement.

Did you read the part that said, I worked for the Bush campaign?

Did you read the part about the SS detail being for the current First Lady at a fundraiser?
