In conversations with personnel folks over the weekend, I’m told that RD1 CB prospect Will Johnson (Michigan) will “do everything but run a 40” in this morning’s workout for NFL evaluators. Considered a top-20 pick by zone-heavy defensive teams. A sniper with his eyes forward and playing the ball in front of him. But limited when back is turned to the QB (lacks recovery speed and struggles to track the ball down field). He’s reportedly been running in the high-4.5’s in training, which explains not running a 40. Damn good football player in the right scheme!

Congratulations another Mich 1st rounder to Dallas, yippy! Micah will take him under his wing, and have him on the podcast in no time

Lot of questions marks suddenly for a highly ranked player. Even the the little testing he did do was poor.

He will drop to the 20s now. Playing with a great Michigan DL that doesn't give QBs time to throw deep in college is a big helper. If you run a 4.6 as a CB in the NFL they will find you and go deep a lot. He is worth the risk in the mid to late 20s.

What looks worse? Running a slow 40 or choosing not to run a 40 because you know it will be slow?
I'd go with confirming it is a slow 40, Risen.

He'll still be a 1st rounder without running. No guarantee he will be if he ran a slow 40. I get why he didn't.
