Every team looks for a 2nd year jump but not every team has a draft group perform like Smith, Williams, Ferguson, Bland, Clarke, and Hendershot? We are starting from a pretty high baseline with six guys expected to contribute.
That would be an interesting exercise but impossible to prove or disprove. I started to go through the teams , if you just look at games played there were several teams with more than five players that played in 10 or more games. We do a good job of getting the rookies on the field, a lot better than they used to and I agree we probably have more to look forward to that many of the other 32 teams. Bland was a player that I never heard of that really surprised me.

Ferguson 16 games 19 receptions 174 yards
Hendershot 17 games 11 receptions 103 yeards
Bland 17 games 7 PD 5 int 54 tackles
Williams 15 games 22 tackles 9 QB hits 10 TFL 4 sacks
Clarke 10 games 47 tackles 1 TFL

I think he and the Jones’ think they put themselves in position to go BPA every year. Until I see deliberate attempts to sure up DT as a strength, I won’t believe they are in the position they claim to be.
Yes they believe they do that, going BPA every year. Rather we fans agree or not, they do get close to do so, more than we think.
Because many fans want certain players regardless if BPA or not. So many differing opinions on the draft and selections.

But one thing we all, or most, agree upon, or seem to, is that elusive DT. Same for S, they never pick high at S, and Jerry even said at one time they do not feel it is a position to do so.
I do not recall if he ever said that at DT. But not to do either one is very stupid of them. Especially when it is a glaring weakness.

If there is one thing I have learned in life it is to not waste my time with anyone who for whatever reason has zero objectivity.

But yet here you are wasting your time and our time that is offering zero insight to the topic on hand.

Some info from Mickey. Pretty much says what we already been saying. Getting the roster to the point of taking BPA without reaching for a player of need. Especially in the 1st round. But he does a good summary of it.

Some other interesting info as well. Pretty much straight forward stuff, no rah-rah team stuff.

A few interesting comments about the NCAA Women's basketball championship as well. And MM's take on how tough it is to win SB's with 2 different teams.
An excellent read. Thanks for posting. A lot of good info.

That's all well and good, but how does it "amplify the pass rush of last season?"

His involvement is quite literally flatline. You're bringing the same player out on the field as last year, only a year older.

I guess the fact that I have to explain this answers the "Why are there Mickeys in the world?" question.
A very effective player
He had a really good season
6 sacks and 2 FF
7 TFL and 9 QB hits playing 30% of the snaps
That pretty good production

Before I comment I want to find his column from last year when we went into the draft with a bunch of gaping holes. He was probably just as positive.

His stats are irrelevent. He doesn't amplify anything from last year because he was here last year. This isn't adding talent.

What do amplify mean?

And they ended up having a great year with 13 wins. He also in years past was dead on in his wanting to draft Deebo Samuel and Micah Parsons.

Mickey “Jones” Spagnola, lol.

I don’t hate Mickey. I just find his work repetitive more than insightful. He works for the Cowboys so I‘m sure he is somewhat handcuffed on what he can say.

But my distaste for his work has more to do with how he treats people on the radio who question some of his party-line opinions. He used to be on Dallas sports station the Ticket, but he was so rude and argumentative on any kind of question that went against the kool aid script, they got rid of him. He bristles at even a suggestion of criticism of the Cowboys brass.
That is exactly why he works for Booger now. He was childish with his reactions when fans accused him of rose-tinted glasses and he actually responded in writing so he did have time to process that before replying. He was overly sensitive to comments about being on the payroll or rewarded by Booger for the positivity.

The guys I knew at the Ticket said when Booger responded to Dale Hansen's comments by firing him, Spagnola was one of those sportscasters that overreacted with fear of the vindictive nature of Booger.

He doesn't really know that much about the sport. I have seldom found anything coming from him that was not just copied from someone else.

FFS draft a QB in the 2nd/3rd round this year IF there is one you like.

We could have let him walk
Your logic isn’t very sound
He wasn’t on the team for this year without signing him
I can't believe I'm bothering to continue this conversation, but one last half-hearted attempt.

If he'd walk, our pass rush would have been diminished (the opposite of amplified) assuming no other changes. If he stays on the team, it's a net gain of zero compared to last year. Nobody is collecting stats from early March so there's no way he impacted the actual football being played between the time the league year started and when he signed.

Good grief. I thought only Mick could somehow spin this as a "we improved the team" moment. If all eleven starters return the team is the same, not amplified.

If you don't agree or can't grasp it, I'm fine with that. No hard feelings.
