Mickey: Do Not Minimize Dak's Availability

I don't listen to Mickey any more than I listen to any of the other Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.

I'm just throwing this out there, cap hit in 2025:
Dak $50m
Mahomes $28m
Allen $36m
Hurts $42m
Purdy $9m
Lawrence $17m (who gets brought up a lot)

Dallas doesn't have a defense this year and that is Dak's fault. Or Jerry's fault for giving him that deal. Whatever. When the team loses 28 to 40 in the first round of the playoffs or doesn't even make them due to defense, let's keep this in mind.

Dude has a cap hit 22 MILLION DOLLARS higher than Patrick Mahomes.

Mickey talks about Dak's injury and some observations when he was on crutches. Then to now being on the field for OTA's.
As Dak said, he is not cleared for contact. And does not expect to be for another few months, supposedly in time for TC. Which when he said that, TC is about 2 months away.

He also talks about how important it is to have your starting QB the entire season.
Last year 10 of the 14 teams had their starters for all 17 games. 2 teams held out their QB's the last game of the season, so had them for 16 games.
2 teams lost their QB for 2 games, Hurts with a concussion theist 2 games. Love with a knew injury for 2 games.
No, he was not saying if Dak stayed healthy, they would have made the playoffs.

He is propping up Dak a bit with some stats, and he is right. However, we fans still measure success by playoff wins and getting to the NFCCG for once. That is where he fails at in this article. Of course he will not write that. I post that for the Mickey haters. And I don't blame them.
I'm hopeful he ends up having to medically tap out and retire... He got his guaranteed money, so step down and give the team a chance of finding a better QB.

They say he can throw the ball a long ways, but his accuracy needs some work. But, all of us will see him at some point, Dak is bound to break a fingernail.
Yep, and when it happens it will be 'clean off the bone' and require at least 8 months of rehab.

I am pretty sure Milton will get his chance at some point this season. If they get over their infatuation with Grier.
They need to draft a QB in 2026. Bite the bullet and do it.
But our bull headed FO is actually just full of bull.

Yawwwwwnnnnn, boring

I’ve been trying to say it. This team has several questions but his health is at the very top.

I know a lot don’t like him and have been disappointed…I’m more toward the middle…but if he goes down for the year the season is 100% over.

"Dak can't run anymore!"

"Dak can't scramble anymore!"

"Dak is no longer mobile!"

Well, let's see some 2024 highlights...

Hmm, I swear, so many were saying Dak can no longer do is suddenly popping up on video from last season alone. Who is telling the truth? Dak's critics or his game tapes?

I have to call you out for this video, the one I'm guessing you claim highlights Dak's ability to run, scramble, and his mobility. I saw none of that, but to be fair in my response, I really did I watch the entire video and these are the only plays that show Dak having any mobility whatsoever:

4:10 1st mini scramble
6:17 2nd mini scramble
7:30 1st and only run play in the video, and he looked like Peyton Manning could beat him in a foot race.
7:55 3rd mini scramble

That's it - for an entire 9 minute video. I think you failed miserably on this agenda. We all understand that you will defend Dak to the death, but there's no denying the legs are gone.

This video was more a highlight reel for Lamb and the other receivers than it was for Dak. The receivers were the ones making big plays and huge YAC gains.

Dak was asked to be a pocket passer which he was. The few times he had to scramble, he showed he can still scramble well enough to pick up positive yards or even 1st downs. The problem is you guys want a running QB, but that is not what the Cowboys want.

I think he'll bounce back and put up decent stats, especially with the addition of Pickens but the continuing non-contact injuries should be concerning
I’m on the fence about it. I don’t know if it’s better to have these freak non contact injuries or to be the guy with lingering hammy problems. But if it happens again this year might be time to sing that Boys 2 Men record……

But you posted this video to show Dak's mobility. Watch the video - the 'mini scrambles' I mentioned were actually nothing more than a drop back followed by a few steps forward, left, or right. Like I said, I was trying to be fair and called them 'scrambles' when in reality they weren't even close. Definitely not of the Staubach or Romo variety. I saw zero scrambling ability.

If Jerry truly wanted to win he would get that running QB everyone covets. Unfortunately, Jerry is satisfied with Dak and apparently minimized his running plays in order to avoid injury. It still didn't work.

Dak is getting older and older, and the reports that he is going to be watched very careful in TC, well that tells you something right there.

He is not a 24- 25 year old kid anymore. And, he looks like he is 50 years old! lol

I’m confident he’ll put up good numbers if he can stay healthy. Coming off a second serious lower leg injury is concerning. It’s going to be interesting to see if he’s lost another step and if he’ll be even more apprehensive to take off and run.

If he’s ever going to break thru, this seems to be the year with CeeDee and Pickens at his disposal. Hopefully the new line gives us time.

The major ankle injury in 2020 didn't help. He's never fully recovered and never regained the mobility he had prior to that injury. It is what it is.

I commend A/C for still defending Dak, but I think he is putting blinders on and ignoring what everyone else can see plain as day. I was really bummed when Roger retired back in 1979. But then I was only 14 years old at the time, not a grown adult.

I could show other highlights that show Dak scrambled more than what this highlight video did, so it still disproves the false accusations that Dak can't scramble or run anymore.

And THAT is the bottom line. All of you critics actually want a running QB, so you have to make up false accusations against Dak to try to justify wanting to replace him. That's bush league tactics. Y'all want a running QB like Josh Allen, but that is not what Jerry, Schottenheimer and the Cowboys front office want. So either accept what they do want or go follow Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. It's very simple.

By the way, what has this running QB Josh Allen type ever accomplished?

Answer: Nothing.

If anything, this running QB type like Josh Allen holds the record for the
most playoff game starts (13) without reaching a Super Bowl. Doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement or map for Super Bowl success.
