Good article from Mickey.
Straight forward stuff.
About Booker and his great attitude.

"They're going to be talking a lot of smack to you, and when we played LSU this year, the stadium was empty by the beginning of the fourth quarterback," Booker remembers of the 42-13 smackdown of the Tigers. "That was a good example of me taking love away from my opponent."

He writes, how Schotty had a big say so in the war room.
And how Jerry respected that.

"And then there was this, maybe not as rare, but certainly not universal when it comes to Cowboys head coaches. I'm told Schottenheimer played an highly active role in this Cowboys war room, a divergent from what the outside perception has become of Jerry Jones sitting on this ivory throne during the draft to make every single one of these decisions without listening to anyone, which is so far from the truth it's laughable. As we know perception can become false reality."

"Well, believe me, Schotty wasn't shy. Wasn't shy from what I've been told about stumping for Booker when the Cowboys were discussing the merits of a guard verses a defensive tackle, Ol' Miss Walter Nolen. He had a vision of what he wanted his team to be, what he wanted his offense to be. Let's get physical.
And on and on throughout the draft process, Schottenheimer's voice was heard. Jerry even said how much influence "Schotty" had, and that is telling, since previously we were told how well he worked with McClay and the scouts, and also spending time merging his assistants with his scouts. Think Jerry calls it "melding."
Let's remember, assistant Schottenheimer never had such a chance to influence a draft. Assistant coaches, even coordinators, know to stay in their lanes. You speak up but acquiesce to the head guys."

When gauging an undrafted free agent's chances of making the 53-man roster, it's always a good idea to follow the money. In years past, the Dallas Cowboys have been willing to pay top dollar in UDFA and more than one well-paid player has gone on to earn big roles as rookies.

Most recently, fullback Hunter Luepke and tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford come to mind. For instance, the latter was among the highest-paid UDFAs in the league and he ended the 2024 season with 17 games played and a 26% snap count on offense.

This year, though not all deals have been fully revealed, one name stands out in guaranteed money from the Cowboys' UDFA class: Defensive back Alijah Clark from Syracuse.

According to Spotrac, Clark signed a deal with $259,000 guaranteed at signing, which currently ranks in the top 15 of highest guarantees for a UDFA around the NFL this year. For comparison's sake, it's $124,000 higher than another Cowboys' undrafted free agent DB, Zion Childress.

Nick: ... As for wide receiver, they'll add someone here in the next week or so to add some depth, to add depth.
You forgot to include "in his opinion" in there.

It doesn't say that's that the Cowboys are going to do.

All of this trying to prove to us what kind of coach we have is getting old!!! Ok we get it, he has some form of a backbone right now, but let's see how strong it is in adversity during the season that's all

shotty, you are an idiot if you were stomping for a guard. tells me you don't know how to evaluate talent and build a team. you can get a guard in the 3rd round and still be physical. you don't win games if your sieve of a defense is giving up 35 points or more per game.

this next 4 years is already shot....done....if this is his philosophy, we are doomed already and it explains why he was never a head coach. I was never high on his hire. now I have soured just reading this.

Why is it getting old. Seems more reasons for some to complain,

So he is an idiot just because you did not like the hire.

Jerry is an idiot. Shotty hire or not.

and Shotty screaming for a RG is being an idiot...he wants a physical OL!!! really. what about defense that was giving up 28 points a game. you are not going to win much being 31st worse defense in the league. improving to 25th isn't really going to do much. this defense is a mess.

and compare that to Eagles who were 1st in defense and 2nd in scoring defense and drafted 5 defensive players with their first 5 picks.

a RG, the 5th most important OL position is not the answer to being a superbowl calibur team. I would have taken a DT. I would take a little less to trade down and take a LB and another defensive player...

how many teams in the past 15 CCGs have 3 first round OL men on their team?

simple. NONE

there was a reason Shotty never became a head coach. now we know why. the next 4 years are repeat of Garrett years. Shotty is already a lame duck coach.

I’m getting that too. Remember in “Jerry Maguire” they were talking about the top prospect getting so much coverage they were getting “Cush-lash” like bscklash?” Well I have “Schotty-lash” Amazing how a career journey coach is now a franchise changer of one of the proudest ones out there. He’s just yelling people he wants. It’s like nothing ever seen before.

Lets see how Booker and Nolens pro careers play out before you go a wall :muttley:

I hope you realize booker was drafted to be the Leader of the O line, There is not 1 guy on that line right now that screams leader... Smith and Beebe for now but Booker will be the guy.

Major leap of faith , but we could see a major jump by one of our wideouts this year. Tolbert, Flournoy, some udfa ? I just have a sense good things are headed our way.

Lets see how Booker and Nolens pro careers play out before you go a wall :muttley:
exactly. lets see how it plays out, because there are a few on this board who are already spit shinning Booker's HOF trophy. and all this man love over a RG...geesh

oh, and Grand and Walker could have been in play as well.

It doesn't say that's that the Cowboys are going to do.
The quote was included and I didn't forget a thing. It was a mailbag and he was first asked a direct opinion.

Want to argue it?

so we lack leadership and want a leader on the OL. a rookie. and expect what results exactly? its football and in this football, defense wins championships. like I said, Philly had #1 defense. #2 scoring defense. beat the crap out of Mahomes in the superbowl. and drafted 5 defensive players with their first 5 picks. we drafted a RG because there is a lack of leadership on this team... that speaks volumes on why we suck so bad. I guess we have to wait another 30 years and hear the same stories again. KC has played in 3 straight superbowls and drafted an OT (the most important position on the OL) and 3 defensive players with their first 4 picks.

drafting a RG at the 12th spot is stupid. This doesn't mean Booker is a bad player, but RG is not an impact player.

if you look at the CCG teams of the past 15 years, none of them have 3 first round OL men on their team. yet here we are. we lack leadership and want to draft somebody to be a leader. position impact be damned!
