Mickey: looking back at prime draft players

exactly. lets see how it plays out, because there are a few on this board who are already spit shinning Booker's HOF trophy. and all this man love over a RG...geesh

oh, and Grand and Walker could have been in play as well.
He rode reviews high, unlike your comments. You must be from Houston. I first was from Bishop and then Kingsville.

so we lack leadership and want a leader on the OL. a rookie. and expect what results exactly? its football and in this football, defense wins championships. like I said, Philly had #1 defense. #2 scoring defense. beat the crap out of Mahomes in the superbowl. and drafted 5 defensive players with their first 5 picks. we drafted a RG because there is a lack of leadership on this team... that speaks volumes on why we suck so bad. I guess we have to wait another 30 years and hear the same stories again. KC has played in 3 straight superbowls and drafted an OT (the most important position on the OL) and 3 defensive players with their first 4 picks.

drafting a RG at the 12th spot is stupid. This doesn't mean Booker is a bad player, but RG is not an impact player.

if you look at the CCG teams of the past 15 years, none of them have 3 first round OL men on their team. yet here we are. we lack leadership and want to draft somebody to be a leader. position impact be damned!
I beg to differ, RG is impactful for this team.... we all saw how bad it was with martin, Once a backup came in for him the line started to play better and run better.

The quote was included and I didn't forget a thing. It was a mailbag and he was first asked a direct opinion.

Want to argue it?
Here is another opinion about Blue and from Teshard Choice, a respected College Coach and then with Detroit:

Choice has a long track record of success when it comes to producing NFL running backs in college. Blue marked the sixth running back in the last three years alone that Choice coached in college and sent to the professional level. In his eyes, Blue's ability in space combined with his speed is what makes him stand out.

"Super, super fast and really good in space, and can catch the ball out of the backfield, can run routes, he's very smart," Choice said. "Him being put into space with his speed, and his stop and start, and able to make people miss in the open field, I think that's what makes him really, really good."

"He's strong enough to break out of tackles and he accelerates very fast, and once he gets in the open field, if you ain't close to him, you're not catching him."

Someone else on site can crow about that as well....not my job.

Just like Booking, he'll have to prove that as well!

Jerry is an idiot. Shotty hire or not.

and Shotty screaming for a RG is being an idiot...he wants a physical OL!!! really. what about defense that was giving up 28 points a game. you are not going to win much being 31st worse defense in the league. improving to 25th isn't really going to do much. this defense is a mess.

and compare that to Eagles who were 1st in defense and 2nd in scoring defense and drafted 5 defensive players with their first 5 picks.

a RG, the 5th most important OL position is not the answer to being a superbowl calibur team. I would have taken a DT. I would take a little less to trade down and take a LB and another defensive player...

how many teams in the past 15 CCGs have 3 first round OL men on their team?

simple. NONE

there was a reason Shotty never became a head coach. now we know why. the next 4 years are repeat of Garrett years. Shotty is already a lame duck coach.
Such a great post. How can so many posters be so oblivious to how bad this defense was/is.

The Great Wall of Dallas didn’t contain 1 first round draft pick. The defensive line around that time had a couple though. It is like we have completely forgotten that our dline at the time played a very big role in us winning those superbowls. I’d argue Emmitt isn’t Emmitt without a defense that could get the other team off the field. I think Howie Roseman stole Jimmy Johnson’s play book.

I have lived in many places, LA, NY, Washington, WV, Texas.... people move you know. its allowed.

still would have rather picked a defensive player.

tell me how many teams in the past 15 CCGs had 3 first round picks on the OL? NONE.

not saying we didn't need a guard. we could have drafted one in the 3rd round....we needed DT, LB, Saftey much much much much more than RG. a RG is not the answer to building a championship team.

we also played better at the end of the season? not against Philly, Houston...we beat up on giants, panthers.

You know what they say, "Right guards win championships!"

I guess when the front office is too cheap to sign free agents that are more than fodder, it makes sense why the offensive minded head coach would be wanting the best guard in the draft.

Hopefully they can rebuild the offensive line to the point where it was the 2014-17 line so our best defense can be Time of Possession.

Interesting. 3 years ago the discussion was between Mazi and an OG, Matt Bergeron. They went with Mazi. This year it was between an Booker OG and a Walter Nolen DT and they went with the OG. I like that they were thinking DT, even if Nolen might not have been my first choice, but they took the player over the biggest need. We'll see how it turns out.

Exactly! Shotty is a rotten egg until he proves otherwise. Gonna be just like the Garrett years.

It’s hard for me to get upset about picking G over DT. Both are needed. This team was not a couple of draft picks away from being a contender. Improving the trenches helps both ways… if a stud OG solidifies the OL and takes our rushing attack from #27 to top 15, then that will help our Defense by keeping them off the field. If a stud DT improves our #29 rushing Defense to top 15, then we get the Offense back on the field more. Symbiotic.
We are rebuilding. It will be a multi-year effort. Can’t get all the groceries we need in one cart. I am just glad they started in the trenches.

And there are plenty saying Booker is headed to the dumpster.

Hell, there was a regular poster who called Tyler Smith a bust over the weekend simply because he was o-line and drafted in the first round.

Some posters just complain about everything

If our HC had more say in the War Room this year, im happy, i love the draft. i want our coach having say, i want him to be involved if hes allowed to be involved.

Our draft wont be a success due to the players, but if our coach has a say and its no longer JJ saying "I GIVE YOU THE PLAYERS"

if this is true, wonderful.

Not at all, he is a rotten egg WHEN he proves that...but in sport, that can be changed and overcome with progress!

RG is a piece to building a championship roster, We are not 1 draft away from a CCG.... this is a 2-3 year build, Can Walter nolen block jalen carter??? don't believe so.... the RG pick is right considering the Dlines we face in the east.
