Mickey: No Doubt About This Win Now Mentality

I’m not offering anything I like draft picks . Im talking about all these proposed trades on the board for Crosby Gonzalez Brooks etc and they all involve draft picks that’s what I meant .I guess I have to spell it out
Ok lets me ask this.

Many on here want to give away top draft picks for players that really are unobtainable.
Trade away PREMIUM DAFT PICKS. When this team can use them to builds for a long term run. Not a one and done.
But yet at the same time they claim we are a year away. This is not our year.
Then they do not truly believe giving away the future is for now.

They say 4th to 7th round picks are worthless players. Then they whine and complain Jerry makes trades for players giving away those picks. But at least those players were a good gamble at the time. 3 are still on the team of the 4 trades.

This team can give 2 first round picks for Crosby and some fans rejoice. 2 days later those same fans will whine about it. Come draft time the will whine no draft picks.

And you know this is very true. So why do they do this over and over?

No proof Gary was going to be cut. Very doubtful. That was a "copium" response from the media and fans and the team, if it was true they said that.

Winters, we will see if a good trade. Probably is. SF fans upset over it. 5th round for a proven player. What s wrong with that? Why are Dallas fans whining?

Jones and a 3rd, maybe a little questionable. Let's see him on the field first.

Miller, a proven player time and time again. Fans wanted him for 5 years , and now whine about him.

Come on man.
I think you mistake pointing out that some of us don't consider this as all-in with whining. I'm not upset with the moves we've made because there isn't any reason to be at this point, but there's no cannonball splash here and those who believe there has been are full of "hopium." These were all relatively cheap moves for players their teams did not think had more than a third-day value for whatever reasons.

I'm glad Dallas did a bunch of things in the name of improvement, and we'll see how it turns out. I just don't buy the all-in spin that Spagnola is selling. Every year is a win-now mentality for Jerry. He says the goal is to reach the Super Bowl. And their version of "all-in" changes based on the latest attempt (last year it was trading for failed first-rounders). I still believe their roster-building philosophy is flawed, but hope that their increased willingness to make trades can make up for it ... but we'll see because it isn't like they went out and got a Myles Garrett in those trades, it isn't like they signed a Trent McDuffie. We'll see what the sum of their parts equals.

I’m with that. The guys that are already here need to perform. Period.

I don’t at all see why anyone wants to part with more higher end draft capital for a rusher. They are fine there. Vets and youngins. Let em play it out.

They just recently used a second and a first on the position, and dealt a fourth for Gary. They have to perform, or at least be given the chance. If they were going to trade for Crosby, the pick used to select Lawrence was what should have been used.

If the Baltimore situation didn’t happen, Dallas probably wouldn’t have Caleb. I do believe they offered pick 12.

No way was it what they intended to do, but several things broke well over the last 11 months, and they’ve got a nice team on paper to show for it. Just go get it done.
I tend to agree. This defense has a lot of challenges right now. Made some seemingly good moves for this defense, and maybe coach these guys up and settle in. We're either close or not, one more player this late may not be beneficial.

As Bruce Lee would say "let the waters clear".

I've typically let Jerry waste draft picks all the time. So many 1st 2nd round busts. SO many "risky" picks other teams pass on. What difference does a 4th make, often.

Now if Jerry and company can consistently add a few solid drafts picks EVERy year, like seemingly this year....I'm all for bankin' 'em.

why do others continuously defend the front office by saying 30 straight years proves nothing?

now as regards premium picks, if we truly were in win now mode I would not be unwilling to do it for a talent like Crosby.
Problem is we are not there yet; we might be by the end of the season be looking that way if all things go well.
We got Haley as a last piece of the puzzle deal.
At this moment, we really cannot say we are at that stage

Trading away 1st rd picks should always be carefully thought out not for that draft but a couple of years ahead. is the veteran player you are getting going to give you several years of production worth that pick?
I happen to think Crosby's knee is not as bad as some here want it to be and I think we could get three years of top production out of him
Which is about all the time we can seriously think Dak is going to put up big numbers. Might be a little optimistic but that is at least a real possibility

In this day and age of often having to let a first rd pick go after 5 years or paying him really big money, I no longer think we should plan on keeping a pick longer then that unless its for a QB.

"Ya'll been begging for "all-in," well, the Cowboys are making a cannon-ball splash preparing for the 2026 season.
"I think we've made it very clear when you're pursuing a championship we want to win now, we want to build the best team possible," said Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer, "and we felt like carrying two quarterbacks is the best way to strengthen our roster."

Good article from Spagnola. With a win now mentality common form the coaching staff and team.
Explains why Howell over Milton.
Other good info.
Good ole' Mickey, always tooting the Jerry hype trumpets.

"All-in"? Right..... it's the annual reshuffling of the deck chairs followed by the hype train steaming down the tracks. It's the same story, different year.

Speaking of old men wagging their tongues, good ol' Mick. Part of me still wants the Cowboys FO to round up Spagnola and Mike Fisher and have them hauled to jail for loitering and trespassing, but I've seen some the other Cowboys reporters out there. Even old man Broaddus has resorted to making stuff up just to get some clicks on his little podcast. Just too many of them now to keep up with.

You LET Jerry waste draft picks? How very nice of you. Lol

Yes...As much as anyone has any control about ANYTHING around these parts.

But here we sit...arguing and nitpicking about EVERY LITTLE THING.

If none of it matters why even come here? Because we love talking about things we have ZERO control over.

If it matters that I be absolutely accurate in my coment, maybe you can request admin to edit it. Say...I dunno.... "I'm okay with it"...instead. If it makes ya feel any better.

I was being ridiculously sarcastic. Like so over the top, offering zero value for a top five CB in the league, that I thought no one would take it seriously. I need a /s flag

And yet you keep reading that drivel. The only reason I know about it is it keeps getting posted here. I guess the cowboys soap opera isn’t enough for some people and have to go seeking other things to complain about. Half you guys can’t stand BB but listen to every word he says as if he’s standing on Mount Olive.

Don’t be a curmudgeon. I was just kidding. Didn’t you notice the lol? Lol

There is real nfl content out there, it’s just not in the local scene. We have one good one and one decent one and almost all the rest are clickbait

If you’re willing to hear about more than the Cowboys there’s lots of great stuff out there, but people *want* to hear Cowboys all day, so those guys need something to fill the time and get the clicks, so they just repost each others dumb takes over and over until everyone starts to accept it as legit commentary.

Mickey did not toot anything. Just put it like it is.
Typical fans always looking for a negative spin from any good news.

1st round pick for a guy for 3 year, high cap hit. Or a 1st round pick for a guy that can give 7 years or more. first 4 low cap hit.
Unless Crosby will get us a Sb. He is not that difference maker at this point. Not if you read the 80% negative posts about this current roster.

Actually what Crosby would cost in a trade is 2 long term draft picks.

Of course I would like to get someone that we could get that many years from. Not very likely at all. Guys who have proven themselves like Crosby are rarely let go before 29 or so. So you cannot get a 7 year run from anyone except a QB
and honestly trying to plan for more then 3-5 years is pretty futile any more.
