Mickey: taking second year jump into relevancy

Ferguson is one that needs to be Dak Prescotts' comfort receiver and a 3rd down reliable.

Williams is one of about 5 young players that make the journey to a stronger upcoming contract opportunity for his play.
He is going to be throwing to cooks, Lamb and Gallup a lot. One of those guys is going to be singled up. He can bring Lamb or Cooks down into the slot any time he needs to.

With Mazi Smith and Hankins these linebackers should be able to fly around more with less to wash through. I would put Clark up there at LB as a 2nd year guy that can really make a big difference this year.
Agree.... i would add Cox too, but perhaps he is in the coach's doghouse for some reason. Wishful thinking i know, but I hope then Overshown is an early bloomer and can be used by DQ more by the second half of the season.

Yah I think Overshawn spells doom for Cox. A more physical and versatile player.

Mickey talking about indispensable players and relevant players that need to step up.

His 2 are Sam Williams and Ferguson as relevant players.

Who do you have?
Sam Williams was already very close to taking a "jump" before the end of the 2022 season.

His issues vs the run were not physical. It was all about technique/awareness.

From Mickey:
Let's start with Sam, who needs to become Sam The Man. Considering his lack of experience at defensive end and playing just 23.8 percent of the snaps as a rookie, well, the second-round draft choice finished with four sacks, 20 QB pressures, three forced fumbles and seven tackles for a loss. The most snaps he received in a game was 27. The guy can rush the quarterback, but to earn more snaps Williams must improve against the run to become more than a spot pass-rushing defensive end.

Jabril Cox has not done Jack Squat on defense and this will be his 3rd season.
- Clark was ahead of him despite off-season back surgery and zero off-season practice snaps.

Agreed. I think he is pretty much toast here.

Clark in the rotations will help quite a bit to the positional needs there.

Which can open the middle for Ferguson to crack their chest . Then Dak can surgically dismantle, piece by piece

I think Cox just has trouble learning schemes. You can see the physical ability, but it doesn't matter if he gets out of position, abandons his lanes, etc. There have been other slow learners like Bradie James who eventually caught on and became good players, so maybe Cox will too. Dallas was looking for him to take on that coverage linebacker role in the nickel and maybe he's ready to do that. With Overshown added, though, we have a couple of candidates for it. We really don't want LVE out there when we go nickel, so we need some combination of Clark, Cox and Overshown to show they can handle the role.

Parcells' 3 year development window is coming up...he better carry no luggage around.
