Mickey: Time to Fill Up the RB Tank

Anyone who takes Hunter is going to get a huge headache. This dude thinks he's a 2 way player because he played well against stiffs on Colorado's schedule, and now he's threatening any team that drafts him with retirement if they don't allow him to be a 2 way player in the NFL????? What Hunter has done is put a very large target on his back when he's playing against real men in the NFL. It doesn't take much to be put on the IR when opponents play to rough and any team that takes him are going to wish they hadn't, not with the threat hanging over their heads.
I heard that just the other day on sports talk radio. He has to be serious, or why else would you say that? If I'm a coach, I let him do it until he realizes he can't. Or it just doesn't work. If I'm him, I stay quiet, and hope to play spot duty at the other position when needed. IMO that would be the best course of action.

I agree with you. And I agree with what John Harbaugh said- there aren't enough hours in a day for a player to be truly a 2-way player.

I don't watch college football, so I'll leave it up to you guys to tell me who fits. But I want to draft a RB that can break one 70 yards at any time- even if he isn't great in other areas (pass blocking, ball security or whatever). I want a dude that can go the distance.

Another nice article from mickey, straight forward, no company fluff.

Talks about past history of the great Dallas RB's, and a few others.

He is pushing to go get Jeanty. Said if he drops, should they trade a 3rd round to move up to select him.
But also acknowledged the need to fill other holes, and wait on a RB since there is depth. But sure is high on taking Jeanty.

Said a need for a pass rushing DE, but after Carter, there is really no one there at pick 12. So trade down, then they take take one and get an extra pick.
This article, plus Kiper mocking Hampton to the Cowboys like 3 times, might be tipping their hand a bit. Plus Schotty wants to run the ball more.

Where there's smoke, there's fire, but I see WR2 as a bigger need than RB1. Besides, I hear this draft is deep at RB. But if they don't pick a WR in the 1st they not really upgrading over Fluornoy or Brooks or Mingo IMO. CeeDee needs his DaVontae Smith. IJS

He would have to drop to #8 for the Cowboys to get him with a 3rd. I think Jeanty doesn't get past #6.

Don't put it past the Giants to draft him. Their fans are furious at how they handled Barkley. Everyone thinks they're going to draft Carter or Hunter. But nothing helps a rookie QB (provided they draft one) than a really good RB.
I agree. I think he is a 100% lock withe the Faiders. Just take Hampton at 12 or drop down a few to take him.

I’ve been saying all of this for a few years. When the Cowboys are at their best they have a bell cow RB. I hope we get one finally again.
Me too. Been beating that drum since our last Superbowl. Pretty obvious.

Trading a 3rd to move up for a RB is stupid, and the exact opposite of what roster building analytics suggests.

It's a very typical Jerry move though, and would stand as yet another example of the tragic roster building mistakes that have yielded decades of failure.

He is definitely pushing for a running back, but I don't get the sense he is pushing Jeanty. He is saying they need to invest one of their top 3 picks on a RB, which I think makes sense since last year they ignored the position completely. He does suggest trading up for Jeanty if he falls to 10, but also admit it is unlikely. His argument is against those who say the 1st round is too early for a RB.

The point difference between 10 and 12 is 100 points. Dallas's 3rd is worth 210 points so Giving up a 2025 3rd would be giving too much.

If I was GM of Dallas I would not move up to take Jeanty. Great player but there are RBs later in the draft who will be good enough. Mickey mentions some of them.

Mickey also admits this team is not one player away and has lots of holes which is why giving up a 3rd to move up two spots for a RB would be a bad move.

so I'm reading up on some RBs- and again I dont watch college football- but here's a guy. How about Dylan Sampson from tennessee?
3rd round?

A draft rich in RBs...

And the Cowboys have so many holes to fill, but not enough draft picks...

But, according to Mickey Spagnola, Cowboys have to get Jeanty?

Can't fix stupid.
He wasn't stupid when he said that they should draft Parsons.

Any of the top 4. Jeanty, Hampton, Henderson, and Johnson can all score from anywhere on the field.

With every pick, they should draft a punter. I mean, it won't make a bit of difference at this point.

So run a guy into the ground for four years that may or may not live up to the hype, only to not want to pay him a market setting rate if he lives up to it...

Just sounds like spending a 1st on such a guy is a mistake when you can get a similar guy in a later round
