I think it’s fair to say the Cowboys have an easy schedule, but when you look at the roster I think it’s also fair to say that we aren’t going to do much if we get there.

However last season the Rams picked up Vonn Miller and Odell Beckham in November and If at that stage we are doing well, and our rookies are better than expected, I don’t see why we could do something similar given the cap side we have.

We have traded for guys mid-season before, including Cooper, but fair to say we’ve been pretty conservative.

So….any chance it happens?

Rumor has it that we'll have the 2nd easiest schedule, other than Washington, in 2022. It remains to be seen if that's so.

That's unlikely. So, you see us beating GB, Rams, or Titans on the road? We have the Bucs, Colts, and Bengals coming to Dallas.

It's a sound get in principle, but we've got the Jones' ...hardly the King of Trades.

It's tentative. We'll have 2 games apiece with Washington , Philly and the Giants. Let's not ignore that in the meantime.

I say we win 4 of 6. Maybe 5
The pass rush will make believers of even the most emotionally scarred fans. We won 12 and barely lost to a damn good team.

The thing is about mid season trades...we trade aways 1st round picks, other teams trade away 6th round picks.
What does each get in return.
I guess some can be debated.

We get Cooper for a 1st, and seems well worth it. Several years later he is salary dumped for a 6th.
Rams get Odell as a FA, and Von Miller for a 6th round....results...SB win...but they did lose Miller to the Bills for a huge contract.

There are other examples as well. When was the last time we made a trade and really came out ahead on it. Not saying I disagree with the Cooper deals, as it worked at the time. And I can understand the salary dump thing, though they could have restructured. But other circumstances came into this decision.

However, when we made other in season trades for late round draft picks, nothing worked out. Like the 6th or 7th round we gave Houston for Ankou, when a street FA would have been the same.

I just rather keep our picks at this point.

We don't have much at tight end right now. So if I will lead guy goes down for awhile, I see a mid-level trade happening. But nothing big.

Robert Quinn was traded for a 6th, gave us a 4th round compensatory pick a year later after an 11.5 sack season and only costs us 8m for the season. Michael Bennett was also pretty good.

Von Miller was traded for a 2nd and 3rd round pick but no doubt will get them a 3rd back as compensatory pick.

Let’s also remember we got Cooper in his 4th year of his contract. He played pretty well on the last two years of that rookie contract (including 5th year option). We probably got 40m worth of player for 12m + a 1st round pick. If we had of let him walk then we would have got a 3rd round compo pick and could have called it a win. A Stephen Jones negotiation and two years later he’s a salary cap dump and 6th.

Pre-season strength of schedule assessments are nothing more than click bait. Honestly, none of us knows how hard the schedule is any year. One prediction I can very confidently make- every single opponent on the schedule will be potentially very tough.

There are zero layups in NFL schedules. Look at all the upsets we had last year:
  • Early in the season, the Saints and their not so great D, **** out Brady and the defending champs 9-0.
  • The Jaguars beat the bills 9-6. I’m sure everyone saw that coming in preseason.
  • The 1-11-1 lions beating the 10-3 Cards 30-12.
  • The Texans beating the chargers 41-29 in week 16 when the chargers needed a win badly.
  • The jets led by former Cowboy Mike White beating the bengals and Joe Burrow 34-31.
  • The broncos curb stomped us 30-15 in week 8. We all saw that coming, right?
  • The Texans beating the red hot Titans in Nov- 22-14.
  • The really bad WFT beating the defending champ Bucs 29-19.
  • Remember the Colts complete collapse in week 18 vs the Jags? Colts had to have a win to get in the playoffs and lost 26-11.
  • The lions closed the season beating the pack 37-30.
Every one of those games were considered to be “easy wins” for the favored team. There are loads of upsets every year in the NFL. Even the defending SB champs lose games that they were supposed to win.

Predicting W-L and ease of schedule is impossible this early.

We also get Detroit, Chicago, Jacksonville and Houston who will probably be really bad

I think it's one of those things where the *really* bad teams with bad records weigh the SOS down to make it look easier than it probably will be

Only chance is if we're desperate like the atari trade. They are reactive not proactive. If we have a good record they won't push for better they'll just say we're good enough as constructed

IMO the Cooper deal was worth it just for the 2018 result.

The offense came alive once he was here, and that 3-5 team actually won a playoff game, the last time they did so in fact.

Everything else was gravy, and the pick was below the threshold for the usual amount of first round grades in a typical given year.

I didn't want to resign him, but even that worked out to a degree. His agent probably could have and should have done better by him as far as not being so easily cuttable, which is why Elliott is still on this team.

Oh, I did not mind the trade at all. It worked and was needed at the time. I also am ok with the trade even for a 5th round pick and salary dump.
I think by the end of the year, fans will be happy about this.

I was just trying to say how we never get the trades for mid to late round picks as other teams do. Or trade one of our players for a top pick. Just never happens.
