If you were the parents of the Dallas Cowboys, getting a report card right now would be ugly. Nonetheless, here is a Cowboys report card on the team’s performance so far.

OFFENSE- (overall a C-) Started the year hot, then Dak got hurt along with other injuries in OL.
  • OL- D. Injuries have been devastating. Losing La’el Collins and Ty Smith was devastating.
  • TE- B-. Losing Blake Jarwin was tough, but Dalton Schultz has developed into a very decent TE.
  • WRs- B-. Cedee Lamb has been great for a rookie. Cooper still does his occasional disappearing act. Gallup had a great start until Dak went down. Wilson and Brown have shown nice flashes.
  • RBs- D. Zeke has led the league in fumbles and holds a 3.7 yards per carry. The OL injuries have obviously hurt, but Zeke hasn’t played well- period. Tony Pollard has shown more burst in his carries, avg 4.4 ypc.
  • QB- C. Dak was an “A” right out of the gates as the only thing keeping this team in games early until the horrible injury. Dalton was pretty bad- 3 picks in 6 qtrs until his concussion. The Nooch was a fun, yet unprepared mess for a start, while Garrett Gilbert played very well in his start against the Steelers.
DEFENSE (Overall grade: F. Could have been an F- but they have slightly improved, lol)
  • DL- D-. Dontari Poe was gawd awful. We couldn’t stop a middle school running game until midseason. Some life has been seen with DLaw, Randy Gregory and occasionally Aldon Smith.
  • LBs- F. Jaylon Smith has been just awful. LVE missed 4 games with the collarbone injury, although he has looked better of late. Sean Lee was injured (of course) to start the year and hasn’t been a factor.
  • S- F. Xavier Woods and Donovan Wilson have been terrible. The lack of investment here by the FO shows.
  • CBS- D-. The rookie Diggs has shown some moxie and has 2 picks, but has been sporadic at best. Anthony Brown has been a disappointment and Awuzie has been hurt.
SPECIAL TEAMS (B-. This unit has really improved. Even won a game for us vs Atl)
  • K- A-. Greg Zuerline has been solid. And his crazy onside kick won the game for us vs. Atl.
  • P- C-. Chris Jones is hurt but his punts were poor before that.
  • Kick Return Coverage- B+. Much improved from a year ago.
  • Kick Return Yardage- C. Lamb has shown flash as a punt returner. Pollard has been mostly bad in kickoff returns.
COACHING (Overall a D. Nolan’s Defense has been horrific, Kellen Moore’s offense after a hot start, has been anemic without Dak. John Fossil’s STs have been exciting. Seen very little motivational effect from Big Mac)

FRONT OFFICE: F-. Their FA pickups were horrific. Badly misjudged the talent on defense. 25 years and counting of inability to build a championship roster.

My grades are exactly like yours. Great post and thanks for the hard work putting it together. Somehow we need to go "A Clockwork Orange" on Jerry and force him to stare at your post for hours on end. The only thing your post missed was calling out Jerry by name.

A franchise QB and a great defense is the way to go. Dallas spends too much money on the offensive side of the ball, IMO.

And the offense falters with turnovers, injuries, or field goals instead of TD's, we lose.

Defense wins championships. Add in a franchise QB and you could have a dynasty. Just ask the Patriots.

I don’t know about the dynasty part. And in today’s NFL, you can win a SB with a great offense and just a decent defense. But...(Earth to Jerry) You can’t win with an awful defense.

FO - big fat F
That is because of their stupid remarks about not drafting a QB if there to select one. They should keep their mouths shut.
Do they want to make fans angry. Sit there with a top 3 draft pick. Then say they would not take Trevor if there.

Just think as a fan knowing he is sitting there to get, and we have to wait from January until late April knowing Jerry will won't take a QB.
I like Dak, but if you can get a true franchise QB on a rookie deal vs. $35 million plus, but the results would be the same, you take the QB in the draft.

This is part of the reason I rather get to 5 or 6 win, pick around 8th to 10th. It takes this out of the equation.
Does anyone want to be sick that long knowing what will happen, our worse nightmare. If it could get any worse. :muttley:

Agree with all except I'd be more kind to QB and OL.

OL.....considering what happened, they have held together better than could have been expected here.

QB....I think Daks performance alone is enough to carry it to the B range. Nooch wasnt ready. Dalton would have had it together in time. The last guy kept us in the game for that one game. C is harsh for this bunch considering it's the reason for the two wins, and the OL and defense situation.

Good stuff!

wasted typing, its an I for Injurys and Incomplete

seasons a mulligan, moving on..

OL for me would be a C-. Passable for most games, considering the injuries and who replaced who.
