Might be Dak's most important season yet

It doesn't matter you like him or not like him you have to know the room just like I told people that how old would win that job over Milton and I knew that trick wasn't going to make it back and that other parts of this roster when it was being built I had a gut feeling because I can read the room and I know Jerry Jones and Steven Jones but I also know the rest of the league,

You do realize here our quarterbacks that they played into their 40s that played pretty Dang well guys who had switched teams and won Super Bowls why does that switch teams to be Peyton Manning or Tom Brady or Matthew Stafford's the best example right now,

He is in great shape this is not the dad bod Tony Romo this is not the let myself get out of shape Big Ben or even Patrick Mahomes I don't know what he's doing with his body but he if you saw him on the street or at the gym you think he's a Jag like us..

When you see Prescott without his shirt on in shorts this dude's been working hard on his body and his diet There is nothing that tells me regardless if he gets injured every now and again like just about every player in the NFL some of them younger and much younger than Prescott can't stay healthy or couldn't stay healthy like Sean Lee and Lve or Overshown I mean this is football you have to come back from injuries that doesn't show your age or your health status...

I'm not saying that he'll play like he's in his prime but I think his body and his mind the way he eats his diet are in their primes he could play a lot longer just like Tom Brady did just like Peyton Manning and Peyton Manning was beat up Remind you of that and he went and won a Super Bowl elsewhere tom Brady those good example because later in life he got his mind and body right with diets and other things he did and prescott's following in that same mold he is in ridiculous shape right now. and Prescott's following in that same mold he is in ridiculous shape right now

His body can hold up in the NFL his mind is right there's no reason to think that you can't get two or three more good seasons out of them they don't even have to be great since when this being great again I already said it matthew Stafford led the league in interceptions through two interceptions in the Super Bowl I wouldn't call that playing great I mean yes in between there were some greatness but he didn't have to play perfect I think the problem here is people think that quarterbacks need to play perfect in Dallas so they don't and then they get blamed for all the big losses...

I think when you're looking at players you have to look at them as a case by case look at their bodies how they're keeping themselves in shape where is their mindset on when they might want to retire You look at a guy like Aaron Donald who kept himself in great shape didn't retire because of injuries really he was just ready to go mentally but mentally he's back and his body's still there and now he's gonna play this year after skipping 2 years well why does Prescott need to skip two years to elongate his career?

know the room, I'm saying this front office will keep him around as long as he can play well he does not have to play great he does not have to be in his prime This is like Romo in 2014 Everything around him was going well and everybody thought he was playing his best football but his body broke down He mentally did not want to come back from it either 'cause he didn't go play for another team he didn't try to come back here and compete for the job he just retired that is not where Prescott's mind is right now His body's not there either so I don't see why he can't continue playing cuz I think he's turning that very corner that Romo did in 2014 and he's playing some of his best football doesn't mean he's gonna be playing prime football it means he's seen the game better than he ever has he's feeling the game That means he can run an offense better than most he's right in that zone right now that Romo is in in 2014 but couldn't continue..

That's all you need from a quarterback if you know how to build a roster that's the problem around here he seldom has a championship roster or a great coaching staff That is how Super Bowls are won not how good the quarterback can play or not quarterbacks when things are going better around them they can be themselves that's when you're going to see them at their best and Prescott's never really had that at the right moments in the bigger games..

I understand how late QBs play nowadays, but I also know our history with QBs. Maybe it doesn't have to be a first round QB, but I could see us taking a QB mid round as a possible contingency plan. I'm not blaming Dak for our situations. I know what happened the last few years. But at the same time, I wouldn't put it past Jerry to get someone in as a contingency.

No he can't lift the team because it's not just bad defense bad offensive line no run game one dimensional football people not getting open breaking off routes I mean what exactly are you seeing 11 penalties on the offensive line is kind of hard to move the football..

I don't see how you don't know that he came back multiple times in 2016 in that gb game, It's not his fault that time was left on the clock and then once again Aaron Rodgers and the Packers make the Cowboys look bad in the playoffs..

I'm not sure how you don't see that How in the world can a quarterback lift up a team by himself it's not just the defense It's not just one small area of the team it is usually all the above in the same game penalties execution by the rest of the team is bad you expect one guy to do it all no it's never been done I watch football for a long time Yes if you have a shaky defense sometimes you're hoping that your offense can lift you up maybe a special teams play none of that happened because the blocking wasn't there the run game wasn't there people were not getting open on a consistent basis people were not running proper routes or they had a ton of penalties i'm telling you you're missing a lot of keys of these losses that had nothing to do with small mistakes by the quarterback...
I didn't read all that but it smells of "everyone's fault BUT Dak".

"small mistakes"....lol.

Things like a throw into the flats for a near interception (should have been but was dropped!), then the EXACT same play with EXACT same players...pick 6...is "small".

Things like run/slide to end the game instead of some sort of hail mary?

Throwing a 4th down pass out of bounds to kill the clock and give the other team the ball for the win?

Slow offensive starts and long FGs (which Schotty wants addressed, he said it after/during the last game)

No...NOT all Dak's fault so cut that. He contributes his share.

Yes the contingency plan 4th round pick Dakota Prescott That was how they work undrafted free agent Tony Romo or going to get guys off the street like the rest of the league i'm just telling you I don't think they're gonna think that deeply of it right now I think it's gonna take Prescott saying he's retiring or he wants to leave and forces a trade or asked to be cut and that's how he's gonna leave..

I do not thank Jerry and Steven are thinking ahead that far because they see his body and mind is in great shape he just played great last year it's not like this guy's play is dropping off a Cliff that's what you're acting like you acting like we're gonna see another 2024 over and over but there's reasons for that that was the most garbage offensive line run game the the choice of running backs all of it it was terrible And then he got hurt but people are gonna say yeah but before he got hurt he wasn't playing well no no his team was absolutely straight trash and they didn't get it figured out till later it was too late..

I understand what you're saying but you're acting like this is the Eagles are the Rams which by the way though Jalen hurts his three backups which by the way is also ridiculous they have four quarterbacks on the active roster right now Who on that team is pushing Jalen Hurts?

Do it for all 32 teams and I'm going to tell you that most teams are not like the Rams who just did that just now they picked up a couple quarterbacks because they see Matthew Stafford is banged up not feeling good physically and mentally and they know his time is coming they're all in right now now they had to have a plan 'cause they believe and they probably know behind the scenes he's retiring matthew Stafford is doing his curtain call this year at least that's what I believe everyone knows they just haven't announced it but I know they talk about it behind the scenes...

Most teams are like the Cowboys you either get lucky by falling into your next quarter or you just get bridge guys until you find the right one..

Exactly, and, moreover, like I tried to point out to him, we don't exactly have a lot history of QBs doing well beyond 35. I know Dak is in better shape than Romo was at this age, but Romo had a lot of really bad back injuries too. So there's that. I don't think Dak's the problem, but I do think it'd be smart and could see Jerry trying to get a contingency plan in place. Especially since he will probably want someone viable so that he isn't forced into a rough contract battle when he might have a possible option B when the time comes .

Right, but here the other side, Romo was lucky, and so was Dak. We have a really good team right now. I do think we are close to being contenders. My concern is 1, Jerry may not want a 3rd battle with Dak's contract (especially if Dak, fault or not, hasn't gotten us at least another playoff win in that time) and 2. I am concerned about Dak's age when his contract is scheduled to be up. So, it'd be smart to have a planned contingency in place just in case.

Needs to be a lot of that look going around But look I'm done with this conversation we talked about this too much when the time comes that it looks real that he's gone let's talk then we can talk about who was right or wrong and I'm betting I'm I'm putting money on myself that I feel the room I know the room We're talking about the Jones family and the history of how they handled quarterbacks And this is the reasoning behind my philosophy and how it's going to work...

We talk about Prescott far too much... I believe he'll be gone from the Cowboys when he's ready he will make that decision not the Cowboys and I don't think they're going to plan ahead because they think he's going to be here another 3 seasons of course things can change fast I mean how do you think guys like Russell Wilson Tua and Murray are now causing their team a lot of money because they were cut does the Cowboy wanna do that I doubt that because for one Prescott's playing better than all 3 of them even though people in here don't think so you might want to look at it with a little bit more clearer picture than the hate that he gets he just had one of his best season last year no one's thinking about him leaving unless you're a fan trying to push him out...

Exactly, and it's why I think, even if we're picking say pick 25, I could see Jerry taking someone line Sellers from South Carolina or a CJ Carr of Notre Dame to sit behind Dak to develop.
Is cj carr related to the other carr that was in the nfl?

I'm not sure if it's :facepalm: worthy or not. I skip right on by tomes.

That may be at least  worthy all by itself?
lol...I don't know why that blueblood cat posts such long posts? I guess he does not know that maybe one or two posters will read all that crap!

Sounds about right.

50/50
2015: Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota,
2016: Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, Paxton Lynch
2017: Mitch Trubisky, Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson,
2018: Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen, Lamar Jackson
2019: Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones, Dwayne Haskins,
2020: Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, Jordan Love
2021: Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields, Mac Jones
2022: Kenny Pickett
2023: Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson
2024: Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Michael Penix
2025: Cam Ward

34 first-round QBs since 2015. 16 of them have hit for the team that drafted them.

There is just no point in drafting a lottery ticket while simultaneously shorthanding a competitive roster.

Yes, however, most of those busts were thrown into the starting role way too early with A. a bad team and B. Were starting before they were ready. We have the advantage of an actually good team with a good supporting system, and, just as importantly, no need to start before they're ready. There's a reason that the Raiders are letting Mendoza, the 1st pick, sit for a period of time behind Kirk Cousins. It's an advantage for a rookie QB who might be raw and need some development.

And it's going to suck if Mendoza turns out to be a flop/best, and you don't find out for two or three years..wasted time... see both sides.

not always works out...

Sure, but I do think it's the right way to do it, even if the player doesn't work out. To me, all I'm saying is if Jerry wants to take a QB round one to sit a year or two behind Dak in 2027, I'd have no problem with it.

Dak's most important season was the one where he was made the highest paid player by Jerry Jones. Every season is the most important to me.

You can't say they are busts because they were thrown in early.

Again, I'm not arguing the point that letting QBs wait a year or two isn't a good thing. What I am saying is that it's fine for the Raiders to do that because they are going to be bad anyway. It is dumb for a team like the Cowboys (or the Rams, who did it with Simpson) to draft a player who isn't going to help them.

You don't need to keep repeating the same argument, I get your point.

I mean, I don't think it's dumb for the Rams. Stafford is probably in his last season or two. I get what they did it. I'm not trying to repeat the argument, but I mean, at the same time, it's not dumb for the Rams to do it because of Stafford's age and health. There were legit questions if he was going to continue. If they win the SB again this year, he probably retires after this season, so, the Rams decided to try to get a successor in the building to prepare for that, or if he does so the year after next with his age. It's smart imo.
