Mike Florio has heard the Cowboys talked to Tennessee about the #1 pick

I'm late to this thread. But I see people talking about the Cowboys packaging pick 12 AND Micah Parsons for the number one pick.

What?

I'm sorry....but if you are trading Micah...you keep the 12th pick, get the number one pick, and several other picks. No way you only get the number one pick for Micah. He is worth more than that!

If the Cowboys did this it would be to avoid paying Parson the massive contract extension and they would replace him with Carter on a rookie deal

Guys...come one.
Don't fall for this talk and get excited or upset.

We all know it is not going to happen

Dallas builds through the draft. We are already down a 4th round pick..
We have all kinds of needs.
They are not going to give away picks and players to move up to #1 for one player only to have even more holes to fill.

Could they like Cam Ward that much? I am not giving up the farm for anything but a franchise QB (which they desperately need). Opinions are mixed on Ward so....
There’s a few rules to trading up that makes it silly.

For one you trade up for a franchise QB. It rarely works. But teams continue to do it. I know Watson and Mahomes were traded for….but even those are isolated situations because we are talking about the first overall pick.

Another rule is you don’t trade away from a franchise qb. The Titans can use a franchise qb….

The problem is this is one of the weaker drafts for quarterbacks. There’s no Lawrence or Herbert or Tua. Doesn’t mean these guys won’t be good because technically the 2016 draft had those same whispers and Dak, Wentz And Goff were formidable.

So then that leaves the question are they about to try and trade up for a non qb? Pure stupidity.

Cowboys have plenty of picks and trading up won’t even really effect your picks this year because you’re probably trading next years first. It’s foolish and stupid and that’s why you can’t rule it out.

That might be why Tennessee would even be willing to drop that low. This really seems like just talk, nothing serious.
I agree. Jerry is usually not willing to give up what it would take to move up. Doesn't mean we don't ask what it would take.

You're insane
Ok.

An All-pro for an unknown quantity?

I keep Micah all day unless someone gives us a TON. The number one pick? Not nearly enough. You would be the insane one to trade the number 12 pick and one of the best defensive players on the planet for ONE pick only.

This could also be the Titans making calls gauging interest on teams acquiring the pick. I don't think there's much there.

Unless there is an Elway/Aikman/Peyton can't miss "quartergod" sitting at the top, there is no logical reason for the Cowboys to make a trade.

With the exception of a top-5 pick falling into their lap, it would make more sense to trade down for additional premium picks. Perhaps they could acquire an additional 2026 1st round pick they could use to move up in that draft. There should be better QB prospects in that draft.
