Mike Jenkins deserves a lot of props

I have to say Jenkins deserves a lot of props here. I dont know if it is Rob Ryan's influenence or Jenkins just stepping up, but one of the keys I had going into this year was Jenkins had to return to his 2009 form.

So far Jenkins has been all guts out there battling through several injuries, his coverage has been very good, not perfect but very good. AND HIS TACKLING!!! I dont know what happened, but Jenkins has been a very good tackler, minus that bad form tackle against the Jets that almost got him killed.

Jenkins has taken well deserved abuse last year, but for now he deserves a lot of credit for how well this Defense is playing this year.

now that newman is back we can do good things again if he keeps it up....when scandrick comes back i'll be very comfortable with our secondary.

I've always said that it was too early to give up on Jenkins. Some guys just need the right coach and the right motivation. Jenkins seemed like one of those type guys to me.

I'm still worried about extending him because he has a history of being a knucklehead and I'd worry about what he'd do once he has a lot of guaranteed money and I worry about his ability to stay healthy.

him staying healthy is a major concern.

I don't need Jenkins laying a huge hit or getting 12 picks this season - just not giving up bad plays nor taking horrible tackling angles will do it for me. So far so good for Jenkins this year.

Yup, if my 7 yo can make the catch I expect a professional to. I don't think that is unreasonable. I also don't remember him getting very many picks throughout his career, even more reason to hang on to the few attempts you get.

Had we lost that game there is no doubt in my mind this would be a huge topic of discussion. Turnovers are huge from a teenage girls point of view.

Aside from the 2 infamous tackles I dare anyone to name one other time that he's skipped out on a tackle. Waiting.............................



Truth be told, he's tackling at the same rate he always as and with the same form. He still dive tackles on people he's more athletic than which isn't warranted. I believe he missed on a tackle like that in the niners game.

He does seem to be playing with more confidence than he did after the Tennessee game penalty debacle last year but people acting like his play now is a revelation just seems to be a lot of short term memory to me.

I probably wouldn't lose too much sleep over him leaving as I think there is decent risk he could tank after getting a lot of money (remember his talk last season about not having to work hard anymore) and I worry that he is going to get hurt due to his tackling form.

I think he has played very well this year.

Jenkins has a history of being a knucklehead and a reputation for being someone who doesn't give maximum effort all the time. That's why he dropped to the bottom of the first round even though he was probably the best pure cover corner in the draft.

I think there is a definite risk to paying him on a big guaranteed deal. Obviously, the FO will have to assess that risk before extending or re-signing him. He's still got a couple years left on his original deal, though.
