that Manny Lawson will be a 2nd round pick. And he said it as if he would be a 2nd round pick cuz he moved UP the draft boards. He had originally had him as a 3rd or 4th rounder.

???

Mike Mayock is a moron.

So let me get this straight... he had Ware as a first rounder last year (if I remember correctly). But a guy that is bigger (height), faster, tested better in just about everything, and had just as good of stats against BETTER competition then Ware is gonna be a 2nd rounder?

Sorry, but Lawson will be a first round pick. He may be a top 15 pick. It's not like he came out of nowhere. The guy has been productive. More productive then Ware when you factor in strength of competition.

Stop right there. No useful information can possibly follow those three words.

Ware moved up from a generally regarded 2nd round pick in October to a Top 15 pick in April. Lawson was regarded as a 4th round pick in October from all the publications I had seen, and everyone knew he was going to workout well.

I suppose that ranking as a 4th rounder was based on him playing DE in the pros? Given his weight, I could see how he would be pushed down in the rankings.

However, as an OLB in the 3-4, I think he's one of the top candidates and a 1st round pick.

But Pat Kirwan specifically said he would be the final piece to the Defensive puzzle in Dallas. Opposite D-Ware. Kirwan said one "scout" told him Lawson was the next Carl Banks. Wonder who this scout was?;)

He is entitled to his opinion just like we like. In fact, he was right on with Ware shooting up the chart last yr.

Lawson has some incredible measurables but still I just am alittle worried with him. He's obviously a boom or bust type player and his own coach was reported as to say that he's much better at just rushing the QB then OLB where he has to think and diagnose plays (I can't pull up that article). With my first rounder, I want as close to a SURE thing as possible given our past record of gambling.
Trade down and pick up Carpenter.

I still think qb's are bothered more by a pass rush from the DT spot than a outside LB and believe we should focus on somebody like Brod. Bunkley or John McCargo instead.

I don't know why everyone panics when something is said that you disagree with?

For instance, Manny Lawson may be downgraded by scouts because he played on a DLine with Mario Williams and John McCargo. The protection was always slid to those players, leaving Lawson with a lot of one on one room.

Ware, although playing at a smaller school, was Troy's Mario Williams. He was the guy constantly going against double teams, etc.

On the other hand, Kirwan may look at someone like Lawson, see his athletic abilities, be reminded of a former great player, and just foam at the mouth thinking of what he could do as a 3-4 SOLB.

All I'm saying is that these guys have their reasons for grading players the way they do. It doesn't make it right or wrong.

Anyone believe we may move Ware to the SOLB position, if we were to draft Lawson and let him play on the WOLB spot? Especially with this talk of Ware bulking up to 260.

I think it's more likely that he goes in the 1st round now, but I think some of your points are off. I think Ware's size is more ideal than Manny's. Manny isn't as thick compared to Ware, and I bet teams would prefer Ware's size. Manny's weight is the one thing that's been critizied the most, yet he shows up even smaller at his pro day (238) than at the combine. Ware kept putting weight on. I believe Manny said himself that he may not be as fast if he puts on more weight. Most of his tests were close to Ware, I bet if he's heavier, he's right at Ware's times and jumps.

Manny was less productive than Ware on paper, but may have equalled him if he started as many games. It's difficult to make apples to apples comparisons about their level of competition, but don't forget Manny probably had the best D-line in college to play beside getting a lot of the attention from opposing teams. Maybe 3 1st-2nd rounders this year, and another DT getting hyped for next year.

I like Manny Lawson but based on what he did in college u would have to think he needs major talent around him to duplicate what he did in college!!!

the one thing I do like about Lawson is that he takes advantage of his situation... there are plenty of guys who play across from TALENT that dont produce!!!

I would like to see the boys take the shot on LAWSON but not at 18!

On the NFL Networks Defensive Preview Kirwan compared Manny to a young Carl Banks whom he got from a scout. Being that he knows Tuna pretty well, I would venture to guess someone related to the Cowboys may have mentioned that. He also mentioned a Lawson/Ware bookending being lethal.:D

.

I really dont know if he'll be a 1st ro 2nd rd pick or not, but it isnt that far fetched to think he might not be a 1st rd pick...PFW also believes he isnt a 1st rd pick as well, and they have him rated only the 47th best player in the draft in their latest rankings

other than people on here, I dont see any "experts" claiming he's anywhere near as good a football player as DeMarcus Ware was last yr
