Mike McCarthy for free or Sean Payton for a trove of picks?

Take your pick! I value draft picks in McClay's hands, but Payton is a hell of a coach. Hurts to imagine what it would look like if Parcells had handed the keys to Payton a year early. I'm sure Romo thinks about that sometimes.

Guess the missed the news Payton is coaching the Broncos.

Broncos didn't want him they wanted Demeco Ryans but he signed with the Texans.

Payton was our best chance at a quick turnaround because he would've eventually wanted control and his own QB and I think as Jerry comes down the home stretch he would've given him both.

Payton is just a guy. Nothing special. Accomplished less with more than almost any coach in the league.

A first and a second for Payton who won 1 ring with Brees or keep MM who won 1 ring with Rogers?

Sorry, but I dont see a big enough difference to warrant giving up all those picks.

I have always liked the idea of Payton being the head coach of the Cowboys, but the reality is that what @Beast_from_East posted is correct.

We have no idea what kind of success Payton will have without Brees because his success so far has been tied to Brees.

We may not know for sure how good McCarthy is either, but we do know that the Cowboys already have McCarthy with a 2-year (remaining) contract and the Cowboys do not have to give up any high round draft picks to keep him.

I think the plan is McCarthy > Quinn > Payton.

I think the Cowboys draft a QB this draft, likely someone like Jake Haener or Jaren Hall in later rounds.

No way when I give up draft picks for any head coach, especially with Denver gave up for Sean Payton. The Broncos have mortgaged their future the past year for what’s left of Russell Wilson and Sean Payton.

And they didn't even want to do that. They were aiming at Demeco Ryans, who opted to go to the team he played for. I think he'll do well in Houston.

My main reason for wanting Sean was that Jerry may have been willing to turn over GM duties to him because of their history and Jerry's level of trust in him.

May not be a difference record wise, but one is getting paid 7 million a year, and one is getting (allegedly) between 17-20

McCarthy isnt a bad coach, but he isnt the same coach that he was before the NFL figured out his offense

McCarthy is a fat slob who lied his way into the job to make money

Ask yourself this, would there be any demand for McCarthy if he were on the market, let alone to be tied to draft compensation?

No one in the NFL wanted McCarthy as a HC when idiot Jerry hired him

My guess is this train is headed off the tracks this year. I just hope we don’t compound the mistake by extending Dak to make cap room and get stuck with him for 3-4 years

No disrespect to Payton, I think the guy is a heck of a coach, but I'm not giving up two high draft picks unless I'm getting back Bill Belichick and a time machine so I can get more than a couple of years out of him.

I'll take McCarthy all day over Payton + losing the picks.

If Payton came to Dallas he is probably loved all offseason then becomes the whipping boy like every other head coach if this team loses more than 4 games. Even as much as we glamorize the Parcells years I remember so many Cowboys fans that hated him at the time and wanted someone with new ideas to come in and replace his outdated systems.

Window dressing, they let their fans down this season the most in their history.

100% no debate MM..not big enough gap to use that type of compensation for SP..that and 290mil for coach who claimed burnout last year. has soem medical issues..

Yes many started complaining right away he was too conservative on offense, playing it too close to he vest. And that cost us some games IMO.
I don't blame them either, I didn't like it all that much.

In 3 years when Denver fans want Payton gone, after not building the team to their expectations.
Will fans here still say bring him in?
Or if he gets them to an AFCCG before Dallas gets to a NFCCG, oh, boy, can't even imagine this place.

I still think Denver has a decent enough core players and roster to win some games and challenge for a WC. They needed some direction and a coach. Key is how will Wilson bounce back.
Pederson turned the Jaguars around very quickly, along with spending a lot of $$$ on FA's which they hit on also. But coaching still was a huge factor.
