Yes many started complaining right away he was too conservative on offense, playing it too close to he vest. And that cost us some games IMO.
I don't blame them either, I didn't like it all that much.

Yeah I was a big Parcells supporter, I think he helped not just get the most out of some of the bad rosters he had, but shape following years right after he left as well. Still he had a very conservative defensive approach, and the obsession to stick with Drew Bledsoe drove me nuts among other things. Great coach, but I can't fault those who complained about him either. It was the experience that really made me realize neither I nor anyone else is ever going to be completely satisfied with a HC. Gotta take the good with the bad.

Payton is just a guy. Nothing special. Accomplished less with more than almost any coach in the league.

I don’t know if he’s a JAG but I think he’s over rated by fans. He won with one of the alltime great QB’s, a really good defense and a very talented roster
Payton is above avg to me but not the savior some think
And I wouldn’t have given a 1st rnd pick for him, let alone both picks

And they didn't even want to do that. They were aiming at Demeco Ryans, who opted to go to the team he played for. I think he'll do well in Houston.

For him to do well in Houston he’s going have to find a QB. Regardless the head coach they’re destined to fail if they don’t have a viable QB.
