Mike Pouncey tweeted "shocked" if he wasn't playing for the Cowboys in 2011

I think theres a better chance we trade up from our 2nd into the late 1st round to grab him.

In fact, theres a thought. Smith and Pouncey. Would shore up the OL pretty quickly, although we'd leave some holes on D.

Free - Kozier/Davis - Gurode - Pouncey - Smith

well I put his chance at .005 and zero

I really dislike the both

Man, you sound like a great talent evaluator!

His brother is by most evaluations the best first year interior player in many years. There are likely 25+ teams who would take him over their current C in a second .. those teams who think they have a better C would gladly have him at G. He's a stud. To think otherwise is plain dumb.

never said there weren't good players

sorry I just dislike them both

I am one of the better evaluators

I can't resit this one. It's too good.

What would one Charlie Sheen say to Mike Pouncy after Tyron Smith went up to Rodger Goodell to get his Cowboys jersey?

"Winning"...:)

So here is what I am going to say. If you take a guy at 9, he better have shown himself in actually big time college games. Busts are more likely made of great physiques and projections of success at new positions. So if i'm set on taking OL at #9, I really like Pouncey over all the others. I don't think any scout things he isn't going to be a 10 year starter in this league. He's the top interior player and he's played 3 years of big time college. He's got his brother to lean on, talk to, and compare notes with. To me, that is worth more than "well he looks like he'd be great at LT"

This Pouncey isnt as good as his brother, which most scouts seem to acknowledge. Further you say its ok to take Pouncey because he has "three years of bigtime college football" but its not ok to take Smith, who has started every game for two years at a school thats just as "bigtime"? Pouncey moved to C this past yr, and the fact is he wasnt that good there, and he was downright dreadful at shotgun snaping, even though thats how they line up 99% of the time at UF in games and practice.

These gomers obssessed with value totally miss the point of getting players you need to win games.

Pouncey is great value in the twenties. If Dallas wants to trade down into the twenties for Pouncey then trade back up into the first for an OT then I'm all down for that.

I'd rather have Smith at 9 and somebody like Wiesnewski at 40

I'd also prefer the kid from Baylor over Pouncey, though it seems doubtful he'd be available at 40.

That he isn't as good as his brother is a poor comparison. His brother is one of the best C in the league already. The kid moved to C last yearSmith played two years at RT and was inconsistent -- beware of guys who rise based on the combine rather than on the field play. I think he's a great prospect but there is a huge difference between playing 2 vs. 3 years. There is also a huge difference between guys who played C for several years vs. just one. He's a great G and a guy would can play C first as a backup and then as the starter in a year or two. Again, I like both but think Pouncey is the far more ready to plug in as a player.

Smith rose before the combine as soon as people started to look at him. His problem is noone "expected" him to come out early so all the know it all couch GM's that do the mock drafts never gave him much respect....

Exactly.

Wes Bunting had him as a top OT tackle from his 2011 draft preview from April/May of 2010.

He wasn't rated over guys like Carimi and Costanza at the time, but he was definitely Top 5 in most of the sites I viewed.

It's just classic appeal to ignorance, ie. "well, I never heard of him, so he must not have been that good..."

No one expected him to come out b/c he would benefit greatly from another year in college - lots of teams are giving him a hard look and people interpret that as him going high - but one of the reasons you get so many people looking at him is that there isn't the body of work you have with other OL as he hasn't played as much

Haven't heard of him? I'm a Pac 10 guy and see USC regularly. Gee, talk about ignorance

I was speaking about you directly, but if the shoe fits, wear it.

If it doesn't apply to you, don't get butt hurt.

A starter at guard who can later move to center is my dream draft pick,,, but the likelihood of Green or Jones lasting to #9 is pretty freaking slim. Maybe somebody else will slide but I kinda doubt it.

it would be a solid pick -- the value at 9 is questionable but so is the value of a RT with a limited resume
