How many seasons has Mike Zimmer had the #1 defense in the NFL in his career? Either as a head coach or defensive coordinator.

I believe we had the #1 defense in all three of Campo’s 5-11 seasons. Led by Zimmer.

And the Vikings have the #1 defense this season after having the 6th and 5th defense in the NFL the past two seasons.

I say all that to say this. Can we please bring Zimmer home??

The GROZ movement was the size of the current Garrett movement. With less reason for it.

It’s almost like mobs don’t always make well-thought out decisions. Which is weird, if you stop and think about why that may be.

So after a little research, here is what I found:

Dallas
2000- 19th
2001- 4th
2002- 18th
2003- 1st
2004- 16th
2005- 10th
2006- 13th

Atlanta
2007- 29th

Bengals
2008- 12th
2009- 4th
2010- 15th
2011- 7th
2012- 6th
2013- 3rd

Minnesota
2014- 14th
2015- 13th
2016- 3rd
2017- 1st

I could’ve swore Dallas had more than one #1 defense in the Campo years

Basically the Linehan of defense while he’s been here. Some years great others not so much.

This time last year we were thinking Linehan was going to interview for a few HC jobs.

Yep, I think he even made the successful transition to a 3-4 defense here after being a 4-3 guy. Damned good defensive coach. Has been for years. The Vikings will not part ways with him any time soon. His health will do him in before the Vikings do.

Zimmer never blitzed when he was here and on 3rd and 3 CBs played 10 yards off.

When he did blitz they were easily telegraphed. I think Marvin Lewis is a huge reason for the difference we see now
You may be right.

But his defenses in dallas were pretty solid too. Even with less than optimal personnel

I think we have tremendous talent on defense right now. But our scheme is old, outdated and already been figured out.

The defensive calls are also being made by a guy who, lets be honest here, has never been a great defensive coordinator.

I’d love to see what Zimmer could do with all this great young talent we have

You thought wrong, dude.

If zimmer loses today it will have been 20 years since he has been on a staff that won a playoff game. He was the dB coach in 98 when Dallas beat Minnesota in the wild card round.

I am pulling for Minnesota today. I want Newman to get a ring and I don’t think New Orleans can beat Philly.

I think tremendous is an over statement. What we got was the best year of Tanks career in 2016 and solid performance the last 5 games by the rookie DB's. Let's not fool ourselves. The 4 wins came against the Giants, Skins, Oakland and a meaningless Eagles game. We are a few players and some experience away from even very good. Not saying we won't get there but we aren't there yet

If Philly plays like they did against the Falcons BOTH NO and the Vikings will beat them. The Eagles had a large dose of lady luck on there side against the Falcons. Jim Schwartz is a very good DC but the Eagles offense was horrible.

We had the 8th best defense in the NFL this season. What is your definition of very good?

Yea but Atlanta’s defense hung in there and played a good game.

I don’t think New Orleans can hold up in the weather and play defense physically the way Atlanta did for four quarters.

The flip side to that is if New Orleans were to get a 10 point lead philly would be forced to put the game in Foles hands and that would probably lead to problems for philly.

Yep, home field is a big advantage for the Eagles especially when it's windy and cold. They practice in that. I said going in to the playoffs that I would not want to play the Patriots, Steelers or Philadelphia on their home turf in January. All east coast teams, all cold in January, all out door stadiums.

I think Jerry should up root the team to the east coast, build a new out door stadium with a skating rink and toughen the team up for inclimate weather. Our players tough conditions are the sun reflecting off the glass lol. JK on up rooting btw
