Miles Austin, WR, Dallas

Technically, Austin ranks a very pedestrian 54th in the league in receptions. But anyone who has seen what Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys have done this year knows much better than to call Austin pedestrian.

And, oh, by the way, Roy Williams: Neither you, nor I, nor coaches, nor Romo determines who's the No. 1 receiver. Production determines it. And Austin's play-making has completely transformed this Cowboys season.

After starting the year 2-2 and struggling mightily, Cowboys coach Wade Phillips inserted Austin into the starting lineup. In just those four starts, Austin has responded with 22 catches for 571 yards. He also has scored six touchdowns and broken off four plays of more than 40 yards.

Most important, the Cowboys are 4-0 since Austin became a starter and have taken over the NFC East lead. If you're measuring true value to a team, Austin is off the charts, making big play after big play, including the game-winning 49-yard touchdown reception in Sunday's win at Philadelphia.

I don't know about MVP, but what about Pro-Bowl. This guy has certainly been on of the most exciting and productive wr's in the game.

The war is never won have way through. Lets readdress this after the season

Perspective.

If it were won halfway through though Miles would get my MVP vote.

For Austin to even be in the running he will have to continue playing at a high level. If I had to hand out the award today then chances are it would be Drew Brees. Long way to go though.

I still think Jay Ratliff is this teams MVP and everyone feeds off of him.

IMO he should be getting consideration for DPOY.

Without a doubt, Austin is our MVP for the first half of the season.

He's the first half MVP for sure. If he continues to make these big plays all the way to the end, which I have complete faith he can, then he would certainly be a viable MVP canidate.

Romo is the most valuable player we have. I agree with those who say this is premature. We need to be concerned with Green Bay.

If we are talking about the 2nd quarter of the season (the last 4 games), I guess it has to go to Austin ... although several others have played very well. Jenkins is one of them, along with Ratliff, Romo, and so on. The OL has been looking good lately too.

The premise for the article is for outside the box thinking instead of the usual suspects.

If you read the entire article, they list 5 players who are all playing lights out right now.

The MVP is Peyton Manning's to lose. The guy has just been incredible this year.

My money is on Romo for this team, Manning for the league.

I concur. While there isn't much doubt he's "for real", many more one catch games and it would be hard to justify for many postseason honors.

Agree, however, Brooking is making a very strong case to be the leader on Defense.

Guys, since the Denver game, Romo has gone for 1225 yards in 4 games. He's 9 TDs and 2 INTs. He's 83/133 for 62.4% Comp Percentage. Over the past 4 games, his QBRT is like 113. Mostly, it's not about the numbers. Romo is making plays and avoiding the plays that kill you. We are watching Romo become one of the QBs who can win a championship for you. To this point, Romo has not been that. He's been a guy who could put up numbers and win games but not a guy who was a championship QB. Guys, we are seeing him change right in front of us. Miles is playing great football, as is our Defense, our Special Teams I mean, there are a lot of good football players and coaches doing a good job right now for the Cowboys but make no mistake, the difference is Romo. I don't know if we'll win a championship this year but I honestly believe that Tony Romo, right here, right now, is becoming a QB that will be one of the great ones. He's becoming what Roger and Troy and many others are.

Tony Romo is the MVP, no question in my mind, for us.
