2009 Dallas Cowboys 16 games 9 games started 81 Catches 1,320 Yards 16.3 AVG P/C 60T Longest 11 TDS

I find this the perfect thread to post about Miles Austins awesomeness: He is the new Michael Irvin, He can make the small hard catches for the tough first down, or he can make the fantastic play that goes 60 yards to win a game. He is the ultimate WR, "The Playmaker".

Other comparisons:
Andre Johnson
Terrell Owens.

Let's give Austin one of those long drawn out slow-claps like they do in the movies that starts with one person and then works up into a raucous standing ovation.

That catch where he ripped the ball away from Asante Samuel and then ran for 20 yards or so was Miles Austin's season in a nutshell.

Rip the ball away from a gambling, highly-touted defender and make a big play.

After all the years of futility it is so frigging awesome to see a Dallas player doing that again.

Michael Irvin reborn, minus the legal problems and flamboyance.

I can't think of anything even slightly negative to say about the man. He's been that good. He literally saved our season.

He's everything you'd love to have in a big time receiver and usually don't get. He's the talent without all the mouthing off and constant talk. That's what makes him really great for this team.

what are his stats in the 9 games he started...?

81 Rec. 1320 Yds. 11 TDs in 16 games
..5 Rec. ...81 Yds. .1 TD in the first 4 games
76 Rec. 1239 Yds. 10 TDs in the final 12 games, whether he started or not, beginning Wk 5 v KC.

If you take his final 12 games and project that over a 16 game season, you get:
101 Rec. 1652 Yds. 13 TDs.

Referencing Hostile's Top Receiving Seasons in Cowboys History thread, http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=173893, that would put Austin 2nd All Time in Receptions, 1st in Yds, and tied for 3rd in TDs. Clearly not very realistic, but certainly interesting comparisons.

In the other 3 games after KC in which he wasn't a *starter* - Wk 9 v PHI, Wk 13 v NYG, and Wk 15 v NO, he accumulated 18 Rec. 292 Yds. and 3 TDs, all included in the stats above.

Also of note, Austin didn't have any catches Wk 3 v CAR.

Miles Austin is the first player in NFL history to have more than 1,300 yards receiving in his fourth season after never having more than 300 yards in any of his first three seasons.

Great season by Austin. He seems to have the whole package. That grab yesterday was Fitz-like.

That's an amazing stat. Goes to show when given the chance Austin will produce.

One thing that arises out of such a stat is the staff was too slow to play him in games. He may have had another season with less than 300 yards if not for the Roy injury.

I hope we don't make the same mistake with Ogletree. Big money deal or not, he deserves a chance to compete with Roy at the #2 WR spot next season.
