Either he is going to return to form or at the very least be a solid contributor as a reliable #2 in the last 6 games of the season, opening things up even further for Williams and Beasley or we're just not going to turn the corner.

I think only by properly utilizing Murray and our 4 top wide receivers can we open this offense up properly.

Many have told me over the weeks that Austin is useless, he will take snaps from Beasley and Williams, just a shell of himself, gonna get hurt again, etc. They will say it in this thread too, winter is coming. Truthfully, Williams' amazing catch percentage from early in the season has plummeted and Beasley can get manhandled at times. No hate towards Williams, but he is a rookie, and teams are forcing us to target him a lot. Tony and Williams likely do not have the chemistry he has with the other wrs just yet and he is still gaining experience and improving, possessing only 10 NFL games worth of reps in his career so far. I'm ready to see Miles back out there and see him make a difference. A healthy Miles is quite the midseason acquisition with 6 games remaining if that is the case.

i agree GB. i think the other receivers on this team are all overrated...the most overrated position group on this team IMO. other than dez, these guys cannot get consistently open (harris/beasley). as much as i dislike his intangibles, we need miles to open things up for everybody.

Does anyone really thing that Miles Austin plays the FULL game in each of the last 6 games? I sure don't.

I have a confession: I was always a big fan of the run and shoot.

Dez and Williams on the outside. Austin and Witten/Beasley in the slots.

I'm not being facetious. It won't happen, but it would be cool.

Assuming you mean on the offensive side of the ball with that post. I love what TWill and Breasley can bring to the table but they have a total of 70 career catches between them. Having a season vet that had Romo's trust at one time is never a bad thing. Push the gas pedal down and open the offense up.

If healthy, Miles can extend the defense and is twice the route runner of Dez, and is really good at going over the middle. With Miles, Witten and Dez it's pick your poison. You can't double all three.

Dude this is legit just look at Romo's 3rd down qb rating without Miles this season. Big difference.

any sentence or thought that starts with the premise that "miles austin is the key" is doomed to end in major fail

Counting on Miles is a bad place to be.

Bingo. Miles is completely unreliable. Who even knows if he will be 100% out there? When there is zero trade value for a guy, that should tell you something.

No offense to Miles, but it's going to sound so weird hearing his name called on gameday. Welcome back Miles.

He was doing well with the shorter routes early in the season - he seems to blow the hammy with long routes when he is stretching for the ball - or he just pulls up and doesn't make the catch.

I thought just a few weeks ago, Miles was a progress stopper for some of the young talent? Miles will help, but I'm not sure how much.

After the bye week Miles Austin will have had basically half a season to rest his hamstring. Do you see him being explosive and helping to ignite the offense in his return?

David: I don’t think “explosive” is the word I’d use, given Austin’s history with injuries, but I absolutely think he can be effective and open up the field for the rest of the offense. Even if he’s only finishing with 70-or-so yards, as he did in the season opener, it should be enough to create space for the other guys running routes. Jason Witten had only the third two-touchdown game of his career that night, if you’ll remember. My biggest concern with Austin is if he’s actually 100 percent and ready to contribute, which we won’t find out for sure until the game kicks off.

Rowan:I think he’ll be a welcomed addition to the offense, but I’m hesitant to say he’ll come back and be explosive. We just don’t know how he’ll feel or how he’ll be used at this point. We don’t know if it’ll be like it was to start the year, because at that point neither Terrance Williams nor Cole Beasley had emerged. I think his ability to work the middle of the field will provide a spark, because he’ll get a ton of single coverage. If he can provide what he did against the Giants to start the year, that’d be a huge boost for the offense.

We need him to absolutely explode to have any chance of getting out of this rut.
