you can't hear that normally. this can't be right.

if you're out of tune and going through the PA they'll hear it. backups are lowered in volume usually anyway to focus on the singer.

now the worst i ever heard someone "caught singing bad" was paul mccartney's wife. they let her sing on stage but they never had her mic hot but someone recorded it once.

That's not what she really sounds like. I've heard her sing without any mics in an impromptu setting. She's not the greatest singer but she is not THAT.
