I appreciate the optimism, but it's way too early to know much. He's played in 1 regular season game and he showed well. He’s exactly the playmaker we need. Reminds me of a mix between Vick and Herbert
It will be an exciting day as a cowboys fan to see this guy starting. Get him another weapon, and I see a top 5 offense.
I’m just happy we have hope for the future and #4’s days are looking to be numbered.
All fair, but IS he a backup? or a developmental guy?Good points. That's part of why 2028 is the most realistic point for cutting him, even though $17 million of his base for that year guarantees in 2027.
By then, we should have a real good idea of whether we want to move on with Milton or draft a first-round QB. If he's the primary backup he'll likely have gotten the reps he's needed and even had to play in some regular-season games.
I don't think the timing is wrong. They get a backup for three years to their highly-paid quarterback, with the opportunity to see if he can show that he should be more than that. If he does, they could get back a return on investment or could have a relatively cheap starter with some experience in place (for possibly a reasonable re-sign) when it becomes feasible to part ways with Dak.

Joe Milton has one whole NFL start. And in a league literally starved for QBs who can play, he was a sixth round pick last year. Not knocking him at all but this is a project player not a plug and play guy. He’s exactly the playmaker we need. Reminds me of a mix between Vick and Herbert

MIlton is here because there is more arm talent to work with than Rush.Milton isn’t here to replace Dak ! He’s here as Rush’s replacement but cheaper and more upside
Is it possible sure but doubtful and if it happens that’s a win
As much as I appreciate your memory of NFL history, and players like this they're not the same, this kids three-year contract is only worth about $4 million total there is no fifth year option, like we did with Lance, there is no Cooper rush in his way, so he's not on his way to $20 million because of one game, because he's going to play more than one game apparently before that happens,Remember when Flynn went off for 400 yards, 6 TDs vs the Lions and signed for $20 mill the next year with Seattle?
In 1991 Marinovich came in the last game of the season for the Raiders, put up 250, 3TDs. Next season in 7 Games he is 5TDs, 9 picks and done.
Plenty of one and done players as caution. Belichicks favorite, Jonas Grey, who went from 200 rushing yards, 4 TDs to the bench in one week.
The legend of one game wonders is Timmy Smith.
We had Kevin Ogletree who popped off 80 Yards and 3 TDs in a season opener and poof! Pulls the Houdini.
Be happy! Be optimistic! But don't let one game fool you.
It seems that perspective has been lost here by some fans. When we say Milton it should be in connection with Rush and cheap contract for the next few years.Joe Milton has one whole NFL start. Maybe we need to tap the brakes a little before naming this guy as the next Roger or Troy. Hopefully he develops. But let’s hold off on getting the bust and gold jacket lined up.
The brakes aren't working! We get a new QB and all of a sudden Trey Lance Part 2. begins? Let's wait and see him play a bit!!
I understand the excitement, but let's pump the brakes!! (Pump the brakes, sounds like a good thread to start
Im wondering when I can get his jersey. He’s exactly the playmaker we need. Reminds me of a mix between Vick and Herbert

Of course! Why didn't you say that the first time?I don't understand the concern, but this isn't as bad as it looks everyone keeps acting like he's been hurt a lot and he gets banged up he's in one of those positions especially with a lack of explosive run game and explosive #2 target some bad separation bad play calling...
I mean there's a lot of reasons why he's gotten hurt but it was 2020 when he had a major injury, he played three straight years where he started and finished the season.. he had a one game one of the years he missed in a couple games in 2022, but he came back and played way better than Cooper rush when he got back in I don't want to hear about the interceptions, the man played really well he brought the offense from the bottom of the cellar back to the top five, that's a fact...
Just stepping back to 2020, let's remember how familiar that was the defense was horrible to start the season they would have to have a high scoring losses he was trying to keep him in games and he got hurt; the offensive line was in shambles, they were falling down all over the place, in 2021 nobody thought he would start that season and have such a good season but he did; 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions one of his best seasons..
That's what I'm expecting, he's working hard this isn't Tony Romo Tony romo's back issues are harder to deal with than some of these other injuries that Daks had.
plus daks and way better shape, I don't want to hear about the comps between the two, there is no comp when it comes to their body types, and Prescott looks like he's even working extra hard this offseason... I mean he's in tremendous shape as far as pictures go.. so if we're going to be negative around here every time we see a guy with his shirt off like Zeke and call him fat... this dude's in like great shape doesn't have the dad Bod that we saw with Romo, big ben, or Tom Brady or right now it looks like Patrick Mahomes is living off the fumes of his past championships because he doesn't look like he's in very good shape either.
I'm not saying that all this means he won't get hurt, but I'm just telling you he's working hard to make sure he's giving himself the best chance that he's not going to come out and get hurt this year.... I mean you can't plan for it but you could definitely put your body in really good shape and then get in really good conditioning could help.. That's a freak injury with the hamstring that doesn't happen very often. It's also a freak injury when someone tackles you and then just lays all their weight on your ankle. it's just a bad coincidence when something like that happens...it's the NFL dudes are big and fast and sometimes you get hurt but this is not like he's injury prone in that kind of way again he started three straight years after 2020... I've seen Joe Burrow since college be just as hurt just as banged up if you look around you can start looking at that at other quarterbacks and other positions around the NFL it just happens...
We're just as screwed with Dak playing, so what is your point? The overreaction here is hilarious.
The Cowboys swap two late round picks to get a long term developmental project that will vie for the number 2 QB spot and suddenly he's the answer to three decades of misery.
I am rooting for Milton and I truly hope he is Dak's eventual successor. But if he has to play right away.....we're screwed.
I can get on board with that and I can take it further..It seems that perspective has been lost here by some fans. When we say Milton it should be in connection with Rush and cheap contract for the next few years.
Joe Milton is a cheaper backup QB with more physical arm talent than Cooper Rush. That is it.
If we are expecting anything else we are deluded. Only Joe can change the narrative right now, and one NFL game isn't enough for me. Let's see what comes out of Tc and pre-season before we get all worked up here.
It really all depends on how much playing time Milton actually gets over the next two seasons, and more importantly, what’s going on with Prescott. They usually can get out of Prescott's contract if they want to after 2026
I agree with you there that would be the first time they would consider it depends on how he's playing in his health I mean if Denver could eat Russell Wilson's contract so can the Cowboys eat Prescotts..
at least you have to get 2 years out of him and then we'll see how this kid plays but that doesn't even stop us this is such a good trade from looking in the draft in the fifth round and if one of these quarterbacks slipped to the fifth round..
I would take him, I would take some of these guys that are on the list that should go anywhere between 3rd and 5th and if they're in the 5th, I would take them.. This is the time to do that where you think your quarterback has one to three years left getting up in age making too much money and again depending on his quality of play on the field, they'll have some decisions to make after 2026..
Congratulations! In one single post, you managed to out-troll Coog Bayless! That’s quite a feat!!He’s exactly the playmaker we need. Reminds me of a mix between Vick and Herbert

Beats being thrown under the bus yearly
It would be a big eat in 2026 and 2027, though. I mean, since his 2026 salary is already fully guaranteed, it would cost $129 million to cut him after this year ($74 million to keep him, if it's not restructured). Then, if he's here through next March 16 (when his base guarantees), it would cost us $95 million to cut him ($68 million) to keep. They usually can get out of Prescott's contract if they want to after 2026
