Cowboys Minicamp Day 1 Notes:

- WR George Pickens hauled in five receptions during the team period on a variety of routes. One comeback route completion against Mukuamu was the standout.

- Overall, a strong day for QB Dak Prescott. He went 17-for-19 passing in team periods and completed more balls along the sideline than we’ve seen today.

- Joe Milton went 8-for-8, including three receptions to WR Jalen Cropper who continues to find ways to get open in the offseason setting.

- OL Rob Jones left practice early with a clear grimace on his face.

- More reps with the ones for TE Brevyn Spann-Ford. He’s been one of the consistent standouts in media availabilities.
- Another PBU registered for CB Kaiir Elam today. DBs can’t be super physical in these settings, but he still finds way to get his hands on the ball.

Some takeaways from day 1 of Cowboys minicamp:

- Nobody could guard George Pickens today. Beat Israel Mukuamu on a nasty comeback route and had a couple more catches on the day too. You can tell he and Dak Prescott are starting to get comfortable with one another.

- Solid day for Jonathan Mingo. Went up and caught a deep ball with double coverage closing in and didn't drop anything.

- Kaiir Elam had another PBU, that should've been an interception, today on a free play. Otherwise, it was a tough day for the secondary.

- Jack Sanborn held his own in the middle of the field with a couple breakups. Seemed like the offense was trying to work the short middle of the field today and Sanborn was always in the area.

My biggest takeaway from MC1 (minicamp 1) by the #Cowboys:

Dak Prescott connection/chemistry with George Pickens is already very, very real — the two connecting on several attempts that either included YAC or a big downfield play.

One deep ball that was caught in double coverage by Pickens led CeeDee Lamb to yelling and dancing on the opposite side of the play after the catch.

Cowboys Minicamp Practice #1 Notes:

- Dak & Pickens connection was ACTIVE

- Most action took place underneath, making it tough on DBs who can’t be physical yet

- Milton showed more accuracy (10-for-10 in team period). Had incredible deep throw to Cropper

- Mingo was second-most targeted WR behind Pickens. Caught all his targets including one catch down right sideline

- Elam and Sanborn both with a stout PBU in coverage, otherwise tough day on DBs

We have to discuss the elephant in the room.

There are just far too many Jalens in the receiver squad. Something has to be done about this. I suggest middle names for two of them.

Henceforth, Jalen Brooks should be known as Allen Brooks and Jalen Tolbert will be called Curtis Tolbert.

Jalen Moreno-Cropper doesn't have a middle name.

Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks, and Jalen Cropper are the receiver's answer to the o-line's Tyler Smith, Tyler Guyton, and Tyler Booker. If only Dallas kept Tyler Biadasz a couple years ago.....

"Nobody could guard George Pickens today."

That should continue into the regular season. I expect to see WR's running more open this year than ever before for Dak.
Like Pickens said when he got here, defenses can't double everybody. Imagine it's third down and the Cowboys line up Pickens and Lamb wide, with Turpin or Ferguson in the slot, and then motion Jaydon Blue out of the backfield.

Have fun with that, opposing secondaries.

Love to see the passing game notes.

Pickens, Dak, Mingo

DBs struggling but I’m just happy to see that the passing game is hitting the ground running

Nobody's name seems to mainly be Mukuamu. Pickens vs. Mukuamu on the outside is a mismatch. Not saying he doesn't beat quality corners, but Muku is not a quality outside corner.
