I don't think it helps. I would think most extremists around the world look at America through the eyes of the media. I think they see how we are intervening in a lot of areas around the world and are very angry with us about the use of drones, killing civilians, and things of that nature. Then they look at our media glorifying our soldiers as hero's when they view them as terrorists or enemies. It definitely doesn't help but you can't expect the media to not report on issues, especially foreign conflict. I remember when they caught Osama it was reported how he was a narcissist and would watch himself on the news all the time.
Do I think it contributes? Yes.
Do I think they should stop reporting? No.
With schools I see it somewhat differently. After these shootings, the major media sources spend about a month constantly talking about this one young kid. One person is getting way too much attention, and a lot of these shooters crave attention or just want to be heard. The media grants their wish too easily.
