What exactly is a mirror image? Webster’s Dictorinary defines it as an image or object that is identical in form to another, but with the structure reversed, as in a mirror or 2) a person or thing that closely resembles another. For our purposes, we will be using the second definition. What I wanted to find was two players who play on opposite sides of the ball, who win in similar ways on the football field. I think you will find this mirror image fascinating because of how often they are matched up against one another.

Because you are currently reading this article on a Cowboys’ blog, I wanted to find a mirror image for a Dallas player, so I chose Tyron Smith. Luckily for you and me, we get to see Smith’s mirror image twice a year in Jason Pierre-Paul and it’s fantastic to watch. Like Tyron Smith, Pierre-Paul is an ultra-athletic player who can beat you with speed, length, and power. Athletically, they are both in the top percentile of their position. Here is the tale of the tape:

Look down at your hand.

Look at the space between your thumb and your middle finger.

This is going to impact JPP greatly. I don't think he'll ever be the same, or at least not for a long time. It takes time for the brain to adapt the middle finger to the index finger's role. There'll be no strength or ability to control the offensive lineman.

I wouldn't be that surprised if New York pulled the franchise tag. It's probably the smart move, although they may not have the heart to do it.

I see no way he plays in Week 1, despite the reports.

Anything that reports him having a chance of playing in week 1 is extremely wishful thinking.

I think a lot depends on what other damage there is. I suspect there is more than just a finger, I suspect there are serious burns
Also depends on setbacks like infections. Burns are bad to create infections
Long term physically losing a finger shouldn't be a huge impact. Short term and mentally it could be a big issue
I don't see them pulling the tag and just letting him walk unless this injury is much worse than I've read
The tag doesn't cost them a lot since they shouldn't have to pay him till he is ready to return. He is too good a player to just let walk for them unless there is more serious injuries

I thought this thread was going to be intended to be about the finger issue.

If you have seen the photo of JPP's hand, wow!
I hope he plays because their will be no grabbing ability on that hand.

I don't see any way he plays week 1. And if the Giants don't take back the tag he still has to pass a physical. Can easily see him missing 1st 6 weeks.

PS if that picture really was his hand, it's hard for me to say he'd be impactful this season let alone ever again. Its that bad.
