Mistake changing Henson's throwing motion?

The problem is in Henson's head, not his arm.

He's rusted up back in time adjusting to the speed of the game. And now he's up against a defense that mentally and physically is on him.

You base this on what?

I don't think it was a mistake. Parcells and his staff knew they wouldn't be relying on Henson this season, and probably even next season as well once they sined Drew Bledsoe. With that much time to mold and develop Henson -- if their plan is to develop the kid and see what he has in a few years -- then it makes sense to work out any and all kinks you see in his game. I doubt it concerned anyone that it may set him back one training camp when looking at the big picture.

The power of the mind is a strange thing........it can also work to help overcome adversities.....what ever they may be.

FYI, anytime you think you have a new point of view on Drew Henson, just do a quick search over the past couple of days and there is likely an identical 15 page thread.

i would love for henson to go back to his "old" throwing motion. he did throw his way through high school and college didn't he? why change a good thing? it's obvious it's affecting his arm strenght. why mess with that? maybe bill wants him to be the next "vinny".

been there. i still say its a mistake to fix what aint broken. he crearly was very strong armed and accurate this year, and evokes memories of quincy. guys like brett favre have been able to survive with a side arm throw. i dont see why our qbs need to be robotized

You can train your body to do things, and when the time comes you do it the way your body remembers it. Boxers have to completely change their bodies motion in order to be boxers.

Not a mistake. Henson is behind and needs to play through the pain and pay his dues. Hope he doesn't panic and turn to 'roids. Realize that should Bledsoe remain healthy (which has been his history outside of that fluke rib shot) Henson won't be throwing much during the year.

Personally, I think trying to alter someone's natural motion is a bad idea and could very well be the reason he seems to be struggling so, lately.

That said, we need to get Matt Schaub from Atlanta.
Totally agree. Look at the way Favre throws, it's technically bad. Look at lots of QB's through out history.

It's not how you throw it if you're good at it. He just needed reps and know how on how to read defenses and timing he didn't need an over haul with his throwing motion. How ever he's thrown the ball is what got him here to begin with.

I agree his throwing motion was ugly, but he made one little interception (compared to Vinny T's 20 something) and he get's pulled. That was ridiculous and they should concern themselves with other aspects of his QB'ing.

It is too early to tell if making the change was a mistake or not. However, I am inclined to believe that it was not a mistake because if he gets used to the new motion it will make him a better QB in the long run. I am not concerned about this year because he has a lot of stuff to work through with the change and still getting used to playing football again, learning reads and getting used to the speed of the pro game. I think the rust was much deeper than many believed and he is still working it off along with the other stuff.

However, next year will tell the tale for Henson. If he is ever going to make it as a QB it will show next TC. For now I have confidence in Romo to back up Bledsoe for this year and expect it to be a dogfight between him and Henson in 2006 with the winner likely being the QB of our future (our future being after Parcells retires).

I think it was a mistake, and he won't ever be able to pass effectively without using his natural motion.
