Mixon OU RB Declares

[Verdict]

This guy could be a boon or bust project in the NFL. I believe he was a 5 star recruit out of high school. Had a serious domestic violence issue while at OU.

He has talent to be a first round pick. Very good speed. Good pass catcher. Complete back but lacks the power that Zeke has.

If his domestic violence stuff is behind him he would be a fantastic value offer the second round, but might fall like a rock due to the domestic violence stuff. Jerry Jones' familiarity with Bob Stoops might give him additional insight on this kid.

The DV stuff was really bad. Bad video of it exists. But it was past history. May have turned his life around since then.

The video by itself shows her initiate it by pushing him and then appears to grab his neck and he reacted with one swing.

The issue w to me would be about what was said. If he was harassing her and as some claim followed her after she had been previously harassed, then it's bad; however, the video without sound or context makes it appear that she initiated it. If a guy did what she did then a lot of people would say he started it just based on the video.

I find it interesting that her family didn't want the video released. I think they saw that she was hitting him first. While I think any man bigger than a woman shouldn't hit her back, particularly if she's not hurting him, I don't subscribe to this philosophy that women should be putting their hands on men or hitting them and then we treat the man who retaliates like he was beating his wife without provocation.

They're making Mixon seem as if he's like Ike Turner, and that's not the case - at least from the evidence I've seen.

Still, I don't think a team will pick him in the first four rounds if they pick him at all. The league is particularly sensitive about domestic violence, and it's the new "death sentence".

He won't be drafted in the first four rounds. And the Cowboys simply don't need the attention. If we pick him, I can almost guarantee it will be a topic of media attention with comparisons made to Greg Hardy. He needs to go to a team like Cleveland or Jacksonville where the media spotlight won't shine as brightly.

My auto reaction was to punch him before I knew it was him. He was knocked out cold and had a concussion and broken jaw. He also broke the glass kitchen table when he fell on it.

In regards to Mixon, I don't know what will happen in the draft. Some players seem to get totally shunned by NFL teams while it seem that some others do OK. Having it on video makes for bad publicity.

His agent really should help him get out in front of the issue. He could say that he will donate to DV causes and he could do a video or interview showing that he has remorse. He needs Spencer Strasmore (The Rocks character on Ballers). They finds ways to help guys with these types of problems.

As an aside, I watch these videos where guys are jumping out trash cans or in the elevator, pranksters come from behind a panel when the lights go off in some scary garb, and I'm thinking, "You'd better hope a karate expert or someone whose reflexes are to attack aren't the person you're pranking."

That is a good point.

I think the combination of feeling persecuted unfairly by the media AND the spotlight of playing for the Cowboys was too much for Greg Hardy and it caused his already edgy personality to come unglued.

A lot of teams are posturing now but I bet someone takes him before round 3. Particularly with the success of Tyreke Hill who plead guilty to far worse than what Mixon did. Beat a pregnant g/f and punched the belly area. Again it was 2 years before getting drafted. But falling to a 5th round and then being a star will probably make teams not wanna do the same to a potential starter like Mixon.

The video is bad but it doesn't give you the complete picture. It also looks like he possibly also spit in her face at some point prior to the big hit. I can't recall if it was before she layed hands on him or after.

I believe his talent level is much about the 4th round. Probably a first round talent but no later than the second round. I tend to agree that he will not last until the 4th round.
