A reminder of why MM was hired.....take the Cowboys deep into the post-season. Back-to-back 12-win seasons are impressive, but his bar, as Jerry put it is being viable in the playoffs.

Yes, he wasn't brought in to win divisional titles, but winning playoff games. Huge pressure on both him and Dak to perform. Think if they win this week, his job is safe.
Conversely, I think if he loses this week he is out

I think they make a serious run at Payton/Fangio if we lose to TB

Why would they give up picks to get the same coach (Payton) or hire a defensive headcoach when our offense has been the real inconsistent factor given the cap space dealt to it?
But then again these are the jones boys so who knows, Garrett got tons of leeway failing year in and year out, lets see what they do with Mike

Payton has a similar record, but he didnt fall off the cliff like McCarthy did in GB. They were equals once, but that was a long time ago. Payton would be a major upgrade over McCarthy

i guess the questions are: is Payton worth the draft picks (whatever it is) to Saints?
And will he be able to coach? Or is he gonna be another scape goat for GM/HC Jones

Question 1: Dont know. Day 2 wouldnt be bad. Day 1 is alot to give up

Question 2: Unlikely to have a short leash or be a scapegoat. He is tight with Jerry, and was always Jerry's "the one that got away". With Payton you may favoritism that surpasses even Garrett

I will say we will have a much better chance of going deep in the playoffs with Payton/Fangio than McCarthy/Quinn

You would think that would be the most likely scenario. Perhaps maybe Quinn as an alternative in this doomsday scenario.

Funny from that Glazer story about convincing them about Mike that the FO wanted to go with a defensive HC because they wanted to keep the offensive staff! That explains it all now. Moore was obviously forced on Mike because Dak is comfortable. If Dak and company falter these playoffs it’s time for the FO to make Dak uncomfortable!

Isn't that what every coach is hired to do?
In theory, yes. But that just isn't the reality of it. There are owners who aren't committed to winning a super bowl. They don't want to spend the money it takes. They bought a NFL team and treat it like buying any other business. It makes money and even bigger money thanks to Jerry Jones.

LOL, I love it. After years and years of having capable offenses and lose-the-game defenses Jerry and company set out to find a defensive minded head coach to replace Garrett,,, only to change their minds and go offense again. Meanwhile the Cowboys defensive spending as a percentage of the cap = 5th lowest in the league. Spending doesn't always result in success but it's an indicator of where your focus is at (or not),,, you reap what you sow...

and players were drafted and paid big $$ to not come in and lay an egg in their biggest game each year , recent history , 14 penalties torpedoed that 9er game , poor play still only lost by 6.. I mean its hard to coach when payers just dont execute or focus.
