Notice he puts Gallup's market value at $11M.........think we can live with that

The Amari Cooper situation ties to Michael Gallup’s situation. My guess is at some point over the next week, word will come in that Gallup, who tore his ACL in Week 17 (and it was a clean tear, so he has a chance to be back for the opener), is signing a deal in the range of $11 million per year. And if that’s what it takes for Dallas to extend their promising 26-year-old, you’ll see the idea here—they’ll be locking up a potential star who’s two years younger than their established star for about $9 million less per year then they’d otherwise be paying. A similar situation could play out with edge rushers DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory. The bottom line is—and this is a champagne problem—Dallas has gotten really top-heavy on its cap because of the number of stars and cornerstones the team has been able to draft and develop. They went into last year with 10 guys making $10 million per or more, with Cooper being one of three guys on the roster at or above $20 million, and one of five north of $14 million. Could they mortgage some deals and move money around? Sure. But if picking Gallup over Cooper means keeping Cedrick Wilson, who’s also a free agent, and getting a little cap healthier, would that beat the other options? It feels to me like Dallas is saying yes, and the timing on the Cooper news, coinciding with the Gallup negotiations wrapping up, seems to confirm that.

Yeah, if you don’t get this wrapped up quick, CeeDee lamb and Simi Fehoko are your starting outside WRs on day 1 of free agency.

I predict Gallup is back, 1 of Brown or Wilson is back (Wilson may get some money on the open market), and you’re drafting a day 2 WR

+1

Agreed. I think Gallup and Wilson are back. Schultz gets the tag. Release coop, law and jarwin

I think it's a mistake to put all your eggs in the Gallup basket!! Considering his injury, who even knows if he'll be available to begin the season. Seems like there should be another option. o_O

If you can't get at least a 2nd or 3rd and 4th for Cooper - then don't release him. Pivot and restructure Coopers deal, resign Wilson and let Gallup go in FA. The numbers would have about the same effect on the cap. Think the difference in Cooper is $3 million in restructure vs release/trade.

Get your draft pick in next years draft via comp for Gallup.

Word is he "should" be ready by the start of the season but you're right, we shouldn't count on it. That's why you either resign Wilson or low cost vet AND draft a guy.

Cornerstones to what? What have all of these "stars" accomplished?

Cooper got on Jerry's bad side. This isn't just a money/cap thing.

He called Coop a "me" guy when he missed two games because of you know what. The writing has been on the wall ever since,

The comp pick definitely should have been part of the conversation. Would it be better to let Gallup walk and pick up a comp pick than to cut Cooper and get nothing? I think it would be.

so what do you see market value at? Spotrac has him listed at a market value of 11.3 mill. That would put him on par with Cory Davis, Tyler Boyd, Jamison Crowder and Courtland Sutton

Again, I say most Cowboys fans are like my father-in-law who believes restaurant food should cost the same as it did 40 years ago and always grumbles over the price.

I’m not even crazy about $11 million a year for Gallup

When they didn't trade Gallup last year this always seemed the likely route.
Let Coop go and resign the cheaper options that know the offense in Gallup/Wilson.

Draft a WR again to replace one of these guys in a couple years when CeeDee get paid.

Say they max restructure Coops deal, with no void years tacked on.

His 2022 cap hit becomes 1mil base+2mil original prorated bonus + 6.33mil new prorated bonus for a cap hit of 9.33mil.

His 2023 cap hit and 2024 cap hits are now 28.3mil.
And to cut him in 2023 his dead cap hit would be= 16.6mil. Still a net savings of 11.7mil but more pain in cap hits for the 2023 year. Cut or trade now, no dead cap of any kind for next year-assuming it's prior to June 1st.

The only issue I'd see here is the Dallas FO believes that Cooper was moody last year as a non-primary focal point.
He was starting to display the all-too-common diva WR persona because he was 1A over CeeDee and not a clear cut bellcow as he feels he warrants.

I don't know if Dallas could appease him for one more year without giving him more money or security or something.

But you'd love to have his talent and buy in if you could.

Still, I think you can count on two hands the number of highly paid WRs who were paid big money post 29 years old that were good values.
Most of those guys are Hall of Famers and Amari isn't close to that.
