An NFL quarterback is like a roof: you don't know how good it really is until there’s a storm. It was all sunny for Dak Prescott in 2016. He played behind the best offensive line the NFL has seen in 25 years. He handed the ball to rookie sensation Ezekiel Elliott. He had a true No. 1 receiver, Dez Bryant, who commanded safety help downfield, which made coverages easier to read. And Prescott had not one, but two security blankets to target underneath: 15-year tight end Jason

Witten, whom he could go to late in the down, and shifty sixth-year slot receiver Cole Beasley, whom he could target early in the down. Never before had a rookie QB been set up so perfectly for success.

Prescott has all of this again in 2017, but history says perfect conditions don’t last in the NFL. At some point, Prescott’s circumstances will change. No one knows when. Maybe if Elliott's suspension goes through. Or when someone gets hurt. Whenever it is, Prescott will be fascinating to evaluate.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett and offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, to their credit, have capitalized on the favorable conditions surrounding Prescott, easing his transition to the pros. And Prescott, to his credit, has taken full advantage.

Very true, and yes he has taken advantage of it. He was at the right time and right place. But, like I've told many people before, i life it's not how you get the job that counts, it's what you do with it once you get it.
Salud, Dak!

NO quarterback wins all by himself. This whole article is asinine.

"How good was Troy Aikman? After all, he had that outstanding O-line and Emmitt Smith to hand off to. We never got to TRULY see how good Aikman was."

Give me a ******* break.

He's better than Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel, anyway.

On a related note, how good was Tony Romo? I guess we'll just never know.
That's for darn sure about Weeden and Cassel. I wonder if you asked most sensible fans how good a second year Dak is when compared to, say, Romo in his second year as the starter in 07, what they would say.

Pete King is a idiot

Some would be surprised that the Cowboys have a true #1 receiver

I bet Pete King would also be surprised that Dak beat Cincy, SF and GB without that number 1 receiver

Bottom line: I hope Dak is a hellavu lot better than he was last week!

Amazing how some QB's fail with optimal surroundings. Maybe the kid can play? I love how we ignore how you STILL must put everything together, process information, perform under pressure and make the correct decisions. Ohh yeah and LEAD... football doesn't take place on paper.

He will be. That Giants Defense will knock a lot of talented QBs off their game a bit. Good thing is Dak didn't turn the ball over, moved the ball down the field consistently, had a TD, and overall we did wear that Giants D out my the end of it. Wasn't pretty but he showed me that he's capable of grinding it out with an elite defense.

Further down he makes comments about Dez. I am slowly coming to the same conclusion about the Dez one. This team needs a premier pass rusher. But a premier WR should not be far behind. Doesn't mean dump Dez. But he is limited with his ability to get open. That cannot be good.

Andy Benoit wrote that article, he watches alot of film. At any rate, I found the part about what Janoris Jenkins said about Dez far more interesting than the Prescott stuff.

he is very good, and is star is rising...a LOT of room to grow despite his success so far....we can ask this again on Feb 5th, although, he may be tired from lifting that heavy trophy

I fully believe that had Dak looked half as good as he did last year playing for an East coast team, he'd be getting touted as the next great QB. Half as good, East coast team...I just described Carson Wentz...hmmm.

That's what's awesome about it. Dak's young, still rough around the edges and already so good.

 Nice.

The article reads like it should have been released in the offseason instead of when teams are lining up to play. I guess that means I can judge where Benoit should be placed amongst the great columnists (the opposite of the top).

Once again article stating we have the best offensive line (the NFL has seen in last 25 years). Zeke HAD the best run blocking OL in the NFL. As for pass blocking protecting Prescott, they aren't the best. They were middle of the pack in pass protection. Dak was sacked 25 times. I don't get it whenever an article brings up Dak, they always mention how great an OL he plays behind, benefiting from it. Zeke benefits from it.
