i'm really not sure what gives you so much confidence. i'm none of those things, and i'm having a hard time seeing them seriously being in the mix, and that's with having some optimism.

Yep, while I agree with your objectivity and how some of the injuries impacted team performance, the starting QB still played bad pre-injury at a 3-5 clip with him as a starter. And now a year older and another serious lower leg injury makes him even less mobile and that does not bode well for full season durability going forward.

Nor do I think his return to a 2023 level of performance is a given.

The schedule(opponents)will most likely show how much a liability he is or isn't sooner than later this year imo.

For these reasons and a few others, I am not as optimistic as some concerning short or long term future team success.

And then they bring in a guy like Debo Samuels and Michael Gallup coming off terrible seasons samuels is not a great addition to their team unless he somehow after three years of decline miracle becomes back to his old self from 2021 and Michael Gallup retired didn't want to play and you call those somehow great additions and some of the other ones they just filled holes from bigger names they lost to me they didn't get better and now that teams know them well and saw what happened in that championship game isn't that a blueprint to beat them isn't that what people say when the Cowboys lose a game like that that now the blueprint is out blah blah blah..

This will be settled on the field. I don't get any of you it's a new year nothing that happened last year is gonna carry over I know you guys speak that that you think the Eagles are now about to go on a New England Patriot run and I'm telling you staying back and watch because every year things can change we don't even know what teams are going to get injured or lose their quarterback and everybody sitting here saying the Cowboys are fighting for last place in innocent E and I find that ridiculous...

Hey if it happens come find me but until we play all 17 games not the first three not the first 8 all 17 and then we can evaluate the season all these people who think they can see into the future don't understand sports. I mean we watched the Texas Rangers win a championship and the very next year fall on their face and not make the playoffs. and they look built for a run right ohh no but things happen injuries happen things change in their own division you cannot guess what's gonna happen just by what happened the year before that's why all these preseason rankings using last year as your guide?? You do realize that strength of schedule ended when last season ended whatever those teams were last year doesn't mean they're going to be the same teams this year so you're looking at the schedule and go man this is going to be hard look at the straight to schedule that's one of the biggest busted narratives in sports using last year's results as what's going to happen this year..

It’s ok to have different views dude and yes I saw the games and I also saw both of those teams make it to the NFCC game. Division games are always tough no matter how much better one team is than the other simply bc they know each other so well.

The cowboys lost a decent amount this offseason and didn’t really do much in fa to offset it, though they did have a very good draft on paper.

Philly is so much better in the trenches and both teams have arguably better qbs, dak is coming back from a season ending injury and as of now has nobody behind ceedee…the defense lost a couple of key players and the secondary has so many injuries that unfortunately might linger.

Trust me - I would love to see the cowboys come out and win 6 of the first 8 and be in the hunt, but with the injuries that will have to be overcome, the new players, new schemes, holes as skill positions, I just see them needing half a season to get their footing.

I truly hope I’m wrong but 8 wins with their schedule seems tough as of now

Of course, we're going to disagree, and I'm telling you it is arguably they're not better than Prescott, if Prescott had teams around them like Jalen Hurts has, be having a different debate...

IMHO REDIC debate , Next, we have one of the best quarterbacks in the league Who by the way had a much worse season ending injury in 2020 and what are you doing 2021 very similar team around him literally had one of his best seasons 37 tests down 10 interceptions we may even have won the division I don't know in 2023 he was looked at as an MVP should have won the MVP and apparently you think one injury to his hand string and everything changes I think he's used to playing like this and I think we have improved the team from last year to this year a whole new coaching staff similar to what Washington did and somehow you're putting Washington as a gap and I don't see the gap because I watched how they played our backups last year I watched how they got dismantled in the NFG championship game and that is why I'm saying this year has nothing to do with last year we will have this debate at the end of the year...

It all depends on when Dak goes out.

If we’re 10ish games in it’ll be too much of a hole for Milton to dig out of, but if it’s earlier, like 6ish games in we could do it.

I hear you but it’s not just one injury to his hamstring and everything changes - it’s now been numerous injuries and multiple leg injuries that make him totally immobile which is fine as long as he is super accurate and anticipatory in his timing and delivery, and that he has more than just ceedee to catch and make plays.

Unfortunately I see dak in a more negative light and would not classify him as a top qb but rather somewhere in the 10-15 range. I am hopeful that he makes a full recovery and that a few of the wrs step up as does the new line.

I just think there is too much stacked against them, however it also makes me more excited about the season bc my expectations are so much lower. I’m excited to see what the new coaches can do, the rebuilt line, the new schemes and having hope that they get it right by 2026

The team was decimated with injuries last year and was still somewhat competitive. And they were a very competitive team the 3 years before that. Basically all of those injured players are returning. They upgraded the coaching staff, the o-line, the d-line, the secondary and the running backs room. I think they will surprise a lot of teams early this season.

i'm not so sure on the all of those injured players are returning, or that they upgraded the coaching staff. the three years prior they were beating up on the division, which has upgraded substantially. but i do hope your thoughts prove correct.
 
SINCE JERRY didn't say ALL IN, we won't have as many injuries, I mean the football God's were on our side. Why risk it all for a season where the ownership wasn't truly in tuned
 
I'd probably not had any less enthusiasm for this team in the Jerry Jones era than I had for that 2016 team going into that season.

Enthusiasm for this season isn't that low, but it's pretty close.

That said, I love the trajectory of our O-line and D-line. And it's fair to say that my enthusiasm for 2026 is already pretty stout. I like where this is going. I just think we're a year, maybe two, away from getting there.

No we're not going to the Super bowl but there's an outside chance we could sneak into the playoffs with 10 wins if things go right.
It's a tough division the two teams in the NFC championship game come from our division not going to be an easy road.

We could be improved roster-wise and still have a worse record.

I'm not buying stock on Dak, either. He's never been world-class as a QB and now he's coming back from another major injury on the back edge of his “prime” years.

We still haven't properly addressed our issues with stoppng the run, nor did we pick up any splash skill players in FA (duh, of course, we didn't) or in the draft. The team might be better but lets not act like this front office killed it in the off season, either. I'm not picking us to make the playoffs.
 
I try to be realistic, meaning not buying into overwhelming pessimism or optimism either way. On paper, as it stands, I don't see a contender in the east. Washington is doing some great things and Philly just won a Super Bowl. Dallas just let the HC walk and hired a guy that hasn't convinced me of anything....yet. I like some of the things he has said, but it appears he is just another puppet. They didn't do a whole lot in FA to move the needle, despite (still) having $20m+ in cap space (again).

But

If the stars align, meaning:
Dak can return to form
Either Mingo or Tolbert raise their game and secure the #2 receiver spot
Or they trade for a young buck that can take it from them
The line gels early and returns to dominant form
The RB room sorts itself out early and the rookies are as advertised
Ferguson takes it to the next level
Revel shows why he was considered a first round prospect
EDGE is as advertised and has QBs running for their lives
And Eberflus improves the run D immediately as he has in the past
This team could surprise some people and emerge as a dark horse contender. I'm not optimistic all of these things will happen, but I will not say there is no hope for a playoff push either. Completely different coaching staff and strong additions to a young, talented nucleus set the tone for a rebuild that could have this team in contention within 2-3 years, or sooner with some luck.

I agree, if Dallas can run the football really well early that would make a big difference to what ever QB is playing at the time.

Some of the reasoning around here has it's not backed by any common sense or any reality...

this isn't about one person you're going to be improved by default because of the injuries and our head coach his main job is going to make sure his staff gets these players ready,

this is a group this is not a single headed monster here... if I believe anything I'm hearing seeing and reading about Brian Schottenheimer he will lean on his staff and he is not an egomaniacal guy who wants full control of everything, and he will listen, learn, and they will work as a group to get better game by game...

I think this coaching staff as far as everyone that was hired under Brian Schottenheimer is what makes me more comfortable about Brian Schottenheimer to me it's one of the best staffs I've seen us assemble from top to bottom.. Sure it's all on paper but to me they all seem to have similar characteristics they like to be hands on they're very passionate they seem very enthusiastic type of hands on coaches...

I don't know it's like we have four Dan Quinn type personalities you know like Dan Campbell these assistant coaches have that fuel and I believe if you listen to everyone else brian Schottenheimer is very much similar to that he loves being on the field he loves interacting with the players and he brought an entire staff that brings that same passion and not only that they bring success here in the important parts of this team these coaches seem to be a very solid staff talk to bottom.

Holy crap...paragraphs.

Many seasoned coaches have floundered when sitting in the big chair for the first time. Regardless of how much coaching experience they had. It's an entirely different entity. Not everyone is suited to it. Just like our D. Co-ordinator. Marty's vast experience as a head coach is irrelevant to Brian's success.

My comment was not a condemnation of Brian's ability. We simply have no track record to base a prediction on. We hope for the best. But the simple fact of the matter is, it's going to be a tough road this season. Whether it's ultimately successful or not.

Make sure you comprehend what I'm writing before you snap back at me for not crowning the upcoming 2025 season a success. As you seem to have glossed over the part where I said the team may be much improved. Which of course, would be in part due to the coaching staff. Or did you just dismiss that part so you could have a reason to be angry?
